A few months ago, late January in fact, I went to a new class. The class is called Holocaust, Genocide and Peace studies. As I was flipping through my syllabus I came across this:

PEACE PROJECT:
In order to combat the "culture of violence" that pervades our society, we need to embark on a radically different education-one that does not glorify confrontation, violence, aggression, and war but rather educates for peace, cooperation, and non-violence. During our last class period, you need to share a poem, a game, art work, stories, etc. related to peace. If you choose, you may present your peace project at any time during the semester. Just let me know ahead of time and I will make room within our regular class. BE CREATIVE! The sky is the limit.

And at first I thought....how the heck am I going to do this? Peace project? Right! But after I put some thought into it, I decided that this this would give me an opprotunity to explore some topic in some amount of detail and present it. Being that I spend a great deal of my time working at a Women's Resource Center, the first thought that jumped into my head was that perhaps I could do a site about women. As I was exploring this topic I came across several sites on women's sexual orientations.

And then one night I was chatting with a friend on the internet about a gay friend of mine. I mentioned this project. Her comment to me was....."you're going to do it about THOSE people?" and that's when I decided on this topic. It is exactly that type of thinking that glorifies confrontation and aggression.

Please take your time to explore this site and really think about the material presented. The message board is available for comments and questions. Please let us know what you think and we will do what we can to make it better.
