Riggs, came to us by a fluke. He had become attached to our old dog, Bandy and would follow him around the yard while my husband had him out. Then he started waited for him on the doorstep. One evening, Joe, my husband shooed him away and Riggs dashed across the
street almost getting killed by a car, but by a miracle he spun out and took off into the bushes. My husband feeling badly about this, went looking for him at 2am, finally he found him and Riggs came to him, he was then brought into the house and became a house cat very fast. He also became very attached to my husband and would snuggle down beside him and just cuddle with him. Whenever Joe was on the sofa there was Riggs, his personality was wonderful. The other cat, Boots would pick on him, but he was very docile and would put up with it.
He was a courageous cat and had two years ago fought his way through surgery to remove infected teeth which had rolled one of his eyes up. He came through that beautifully. We don't know quite what happened two months ago, but the wonderful cat known to us was no more. His personality became one of frightened of even his own shadow, and took to the bedroom and distanced himself from Joe; this killed my husband, for he had lost his buddy of all these years. We tried what we could humanly do for him, but whatever it was, took hold and wouldn't let go. I was hand feeding him, like a baby and hydrating him with fluids, he was still able to go up and down the stairs to the litter. One Friday morning when I left to go and get litter and powder, he appeared fine. When I came home, my daughter told me the news that he was now staggering and falling all over the bed. I woke Joe up and told him it was now time, and showed him. In fairness to our beloved cat, we just couldn't let him fall off the bed and get hurt or killed. It was now up to us to do right by him. He had given us years of unconditional and undying love, now it was up to us to love him back. He came from God, now it was time for him to go home. He now resides in a place where there is no pain or worry, I'm sure my Dad will make sure he will never be lonely or get lost again. Until we meet again, Riggs. |
