~Endless Love~ Part 2 by Anne Behind her the door fell shut and Maria leaned against it with a heavy sigh. How could they have been able to forget this? Today was pentecostés, the date of their departure, and that meant, it was only a few days until the long lasting fight with her parents would start once again. Maria looked over to her friend who stood on the balcony looking over the far ocean. She went over to her and stood next to her, sharing this moment of peace with her, before speaking. "After breakfast we should start packing our bags already. Our flight leaves at 13 o'clock. We can't miss it, remember. Work's waiting for us." When she looked up she saw wet marks on the cheeks of her friend. She reached to wipe the tears away but it didn't help. More and more tears were streaming down and Mayte turned away from Maria. She didn't want to cry. She should be happy now, after the band had split up one year ago and she and Maria both had their solo careers. And she would be if there weren't Maria parents. Ever since 1976, since the first developing of romantic feelings between the friends, Maria's parents had always been again a relationship and had expelled the once so beloved friend of their daughter. And since Maria and her were a 'real' couple they had tried convincing Maria to leave Mayte. Mayte felt Maria's hand on her shoulder and covered it with her own. "You're right. We should really begin packing." She let go of Maria and dried her tears, but Maria wasn't ready to change the subject. "Mayte, you know we have to talk about it. This can't be done away with so easily. They are my parents!" Mayte nodded her head in agreement. "Yes, they are your parents. And you don't turn your back on them, right?" Now it was clear to Maria what Mayte was alluding to. "Is that what you think? That I'll give in to my parent's wish and look for some handsome man to marry? If you really believe this then you are wrong!" Maria's voice showed just how hurt she was that her girlfriend expected her to do such a thing and she didn't hide her own tears. Silence hung over the room until Mayte broke it. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I was just so … so … I don't know. It's just not fair!" She pulled Maria close to her and buried her face in her neck. "Why do your parents hate me so much? Why can't they accept our love?" "I don't know. But one thing I know for certain. I'll never leave you, come what may!" After some time they let go of each other. Smiling Maria pointed towards the living-room. "I think we better get ready or otherwise our breakfast is going to get cold. And I don't appreciate cold coffee very much." Mayte joined her laughter and they both went inside. After their meal they would have to hurry to catch their flight back to Madrid and there the reality would come crushing back to them, but until then they would enjoy their last day of the holidays together in their own little world. to be continued
