| Born into a lower-income California family May 20, 1946, , actress/pop singer Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian) attempted to escape her poverty by entering show business as a go-go-dancer at the age of 16. She met and married singer Sonny Bono. Sonny and Cher became a top recording team with their big hit, "I Got You, Babe". In 1971, they began a tree year network running program called The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Shortly after the show had ended its 3-year run, Sonny and Cher divorced in 1974. Both faced poor ratings at that point. They teamed up again in 1976 with a new Sonny & Cher Show, even though Cher was now married to Gregg Allman and pregnant with her son Elijah. To further her career, Cher started returned to the screen with numerous movies such as Faithless, Moonstruck, and the Witches of Eastwick, to name a few. There isn't anything that Cher hasn't done. She's been everywhere and done everything. Back in 1999 she toured with her Believe Tour and is in the process of finishing up with her Farewell Tour, which has been going on for a few years now. It's going to be sad when she doesn't tour anymore, but she said she wants to keep doing movies so at least we will still get to see her on the big screen. MISS YOU AND LOVE YOU CHER!!! |
