Aimée & Jaguar
In 1943, while the Allies are bombing Berlin and the Gestapo is purging the capital of Jews, a dangerous love affair blossoms between two women. One of them, Lilly Wust (Juliane Khler), married and the mother of four sons, enjoys the privileges of her stature as an exemplar of Nazi motherhood. For her, this affair will be the most decisive experience of her life. For the other woman, Felice Schragenheim (Maria Schrader), a Jewess and member of the underground, their love fuels her with the hope that she will survive. Based on a true story, the film was nominated for a 1999 Golden Globe Award and was Germany's submission for Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2001. Major tear jerker. Loved it loved it loved it. Read the book too. It's way better than the movie.(starring: Maria Schrader and Juliane Khler) A+
All Over Me
Claude (Folland) a shy, overweight teen who works in a pizza parlor after school and is secretly in love with her best friend Ellen (Subkoff). But Ellen is far ahead of Claude in development. She has an older boyfriend, and she harbors a bad case of destructive self-loathing that erupts frequently and with a fury. But this isn't just a teenage cautionary or coming-out tale. It's as much a story of New York and its unbearably long, hot summers as it is the downtown music scene or teenage dreams and struggles with adult issues. Growing up has never felt as close to home or as scarily realistic. Definately a film worth viewing. Not only does it deal with coming out, but it deals with homopobia, gay-bashing, and teen angst. (starring: Alison Folland, Tara Sobkoff, and Cole Hauser) C
Bar Girls
The love lives of a group of Los Angeles lesbians who all frequent an establishment known as the "Girl Bar" form the basis for this unique romantic comedy--without men! Based on Laura Hoffman's stage play Okay I probably could've seen a group of high school students act better, but there are a couple of parts I like. Hey you don't have to watch it if don't want to. I'm not gonna force you. (starring: Nancy Allison Wolfe , Liza D'Agostino , and Camila Griggs ) D+
Better Than Chocolate
Maggie (Dwyer) meets the woman of her dreams, Kim (Cox), just hours before her mother, Lila (Crewson), and her brother Paul, move in with her. When the four end up sharing a loft, Maggie believes she must keep her affair a secret but it is Maggie's clandestine romance that inadvertently introduces her family to a host of new experiences. I love this film. The butch chick has like the ideal body. Yummy! (starring: Wendy Crewson, Karyn Dwyer, and Christina Cox) B
Bound
Corky (Gershon) is an ex-con trying to stay clean, but when see becomes involved with Violet (Tilly), she finds that it's more tempting to be bad. When Violet asks her to help her steal over $2 million from her mobster boyfriend (Pantoliano), will they get away with it and be together, will one of then turn on the other, or worse, will they get caught? I love Gina Gershon! I love Gina Gershon. Come on say it with me. I love Gina Gershon! (starring: Gina Gershon. Jennifer Tilly, and Joe Pantiliano) A-
Boys Don't Cry
Based on a true story, Boys Don't Cry follows the last days of Brandon Teena/Teena Brandon, a young woman who decided to live her life as a man. A film about hope, fear, and the courage it takes to be yourself, it is one of the most critically acclaimed films of 1999. Hilary Swank's Acedemy Award© winnning performance is brilliant as is Sevigny's Oscar© nominated performance as Brandon's sympathetic lover, Lana. What can I say? Sad but good. Plus I like Chloë Sevigny. She has got the most amazing eyes!(starring: Hilary Swank, Chloë Sevigny, and Peter Sarsgaard) A+
Buffy the Vampire SlayerSeasons 4-7
Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as Buffy Summers a young woman dealing with life and her destiny as the Chosen One. As the legendary Slayer, Buffy, long with her devoted friends, fights to keep the town of Sunnydale, California and the world safe from the forces of evil. What can I say? My obsession with this show is driving me into debt. In Season 4 Willow Rosenberg fell in love with another woman named Tara. They had a relationship until season 6, but don't worry she didn't head back to boystown in Season 7. (starring:Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Nicolas Brandon, Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson, and Anthony Stewart Head) A+
But I'm A Cheerleader
This candy-box colored comdey of sexual discovery chronicles the life of Megan (Lyonne) a typical teenager coming of age in anything but typical fashion. But when her parents suspect her of having "homosexual tendencies," Megan is sent to True Directions, a homosexual rehabilitation center for teens. Megan is the model student until she begins finding herself attracted to the camp's loner Graham (DuVall). Will she put her feelings aside and live a lie or will she find the courage to be herself? Clea DuVall and Natash Lyonne make the cutest couple ^_^ (starring Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, RuPaul, and Cathy Moriarty) A
Butterfly Kiss
Plummer joins the ranks of film's most notorious lesbian killers in this disturbing and hypnotically black psycho/comedy. Obsessed with Judith, the only woman to have really loved her, Eunice (Plummer), a tough North of England lass, goes on a bloody search for her. On the way she meets, captivates and seduces a female gas station attendent (Reeves) who quickly becomes her accomplice. An intelligent, quirky tale that will sure to upset some and entrance others. Odd movie, therefore of course I loved it. It really is "Thelma & Louise" meets "Heavenly Creatures." Kickass soundtrack featuring the Cranberries, PJ Harvey, and Bjork. (starring: Amanda Plummer and Saskia Reeves) C+
Claire of the Moon
Claire of the Moon is a drama of simmering female sexual desire and equally strong denial. At an oceanside women writers' retreat in Oregon, Dr. Noel Benedict (Trumbo), a brooding psychologist and lesbian author of "serious" books, finds herself rooming with her opposite - Claire (Todd), a willowy yet cynical straight blonde woman who is determinedly messy and fun-loving. Their budding relationship becomes a tense and inadvertently amusing cat-and-mouse game of "I want you...I don't want you" as they alternately try to overcome their insecurities and accept their true feelings. Despite the rhetorical speeches about the differences between hetero and homosexual love making, I found it to be a passionate film about two women discovering the truth about themselves.(starring: Trisha Todd and Karen Trumbo) C
Desert Hearts
Set in 1959, stressed out and fed-up university professor Vivian Bell (Shaver) travels to Reno, Nevada for a quickie divorce from a loveless 12-year marriage. Upon arriving at the ranch where she will be staying, Vivian meets the wild and free-spirited Cay (Charbonneau). The two become fast friends much to the dislike of ranch owner and Cay's stepmother Francis, (Three's Company Audra Lindey) . The friendship eventually buds into a romance and when Vivian is kicked off the ranch by Francis, she is then forced to make a choice. Leave her world of order and rules or follow her heart and be with Cay. Now I know there are some that would disagree with me, but I think that the love scene in this movie is one of the most passionate I've ever seen. (starring: Helen Shaver, Patricia Charbonneau, and Audra Lindey) B
Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
The cowgirls of the Rubber Rose Ranch are staging a rebellion. Delores Del Ruby (Bracco) and Bonaza Jellybean (Phoenix) are leading the uproarious uprising, but it's really Sissy Hankshaw (Thurman) who's providing the spiritual leadership for this rag-tag bunch of female bandits. With her marvelous thumbs and her funky brand of femininity, she shatters all male chauvinist illusions and boldly goes where no woman has gone before. This movie is just all out weird, but it's cute. Most people have found it strange the first time through, but after a while it grows on you. (Starring: Uma Thurman, Rain Phoenix, and Lorraine Bracco) C+
Fire
Radha (the stunning Shabana Azmi) is unwavering in her devotion to her husband Ashok (Kulbushan Kharbanda), despite their barren and sexless arranged marriage. Meanwhile, Ashok's brother Jatin (Jaaved Jaaferi) has brought home his new wife Sita (Nandita Das), but is unwilling to give up his relationship with his Chinese girlfriend. Slowly, Sita's presence causes the threads that held the family together to unravel. Unable to woo her new husband, the young and feisty Sita is the first to question the order of things. Her doubts are contagious, and soon Radha's devotion begins to waver too. Deprived of their husbands' affections, the two women draw closer together in ways neither imagined. A beautiful story about two women finding each other despite the binding traditions of their culture.(starring: Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das) A-
French Twist
Victoria Abril stars as Loli, a lonely housewife whose philandering husband Laurant(Alain Chabat) has so many mistresses he can't keep them straight. However what Laurant dishes out he soon finds is hard for him to take. To get back at him, Loli has an affair with a woman named Marijo(Josiane Balasko). Soon all three are living under the same roof and Laurant begins competing with Marijo for his wife's affections in this hilarious French film. Love triangles can be so much fun sometimes. This film was also the French official entry for Best Foreign Language film for the 1995 AcademyAwards©. (starring: Victoria Abril, Alain Chabat, and Josiane Balasko who also wrote and directed the film) B+
Gia
Angelina Jolie gives an Golden Globe© winning and aggressive performance as Gia Marie Carangi. Centered around one of America's first supermodels, the film chronicles the life of Canrangi from her infamous rise to fame to her tragic fall from grace. Angie is my Queen. Angie is my supreme Goddess. No one compares to thee oh Angelina! Anyway, this is a must see for any Angelina Jolie fan. Thank the Goddess for my extended version. 6 extra minutes of deleted scenes.(starring: Angelina Jolie, Mecedes Ruehl, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Faye Dunaway) A
The Girl
Set in Paris and starring two of France's most exciting new actresses, THE GIRL is a spare, gorgeously realized modern film noir. The story follows the spiraling affair between the film's narrator - a beautiful painter - and a nightclub singer who she calls The Girl. While their passion for each other is consuming, a relationship from the past threatens to tear them apart. Film Noir and lesbians!!!! Humm. I think I'll buy it! Please I was raised on noir classics with stars like Veronica Lake and Humphrey Bogart. It's probably my favorite film genre. (starring: Agathe de la Boulaye and Claire Keim) B
High Art
Syd (Radha Mitchell) is a prosperous assistant editor for a photography magazine, Lucy (Independent Spirit Award© winner Ally Sheedy) is her heroin-addicted upstairs neighboor. When a leak in Syd's ceiling leads her to Lucy's apartment she discovers that Lucy was once a famous photographer. As Syd tries to bring Lucy back into the public eye, her world is turned upside down as she finds herself attracted to Lucy and her glamorous lifestyle. Geez did I ever have a hard time purchasing this movie! I'll tell y'all about it sometime. (starring: Ally Sheedy, Radha Mitchell, and Patricia Clarkson) A-
The Hunger
Miriam Blaylock is an ancient vampire currently living in New York City. Her partner John, played by Bowie, is ailing and fast. The two vapires set out to try to seek out a cure for John, but it looks hopeless. Fearing that she will be alone forever, Miriam finds a new love in a young doctor (Saradon)who is studying the connection between sleep and aging. Hee hee lesbian, well okay bisexual vampire chicks. Hee hee hee. Susan Sarandon had some say on how the love scenes between her and Cathering Deneuve played out. She said so in "The Celluloid Closet"(starring: Susan Sarandon, Catherine Deneuve, and David Bowie) C+
If These Walls Could Talk 2
An elderly woman (Vanessa Redgrave) "widowed" when her companion of 50 years dies in 1961, finds herself alone and unprotected as the "in-laws" move in to cast her out. In 1972, a feminist coed (Michelle Williams) finds that sexual politics take a back-seat when a boyish girl (Chloë Sevigny) attempts to seduce her.
And in 2000, a couple (Ellen DeGeneres and Sharon Stone) with almost everything that two women can have, want one thing they can't have - unless something more than fate intervenes.
Oh my God can we say butch Chloë? Yummy times 4000. Not to mention the older Sharon Stone gets the more I want that woman. What a hottie! Grrrrr!!! (starring: Vanessa Redgrave, Chloë Sevigney, Michelle Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, and Sharon Stone) B
The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls In Love
Touching and poignant, this coming-of-age comedy is the story of two teenagers who unexpectedly experience the excitement, surprise and romantic fanstasy of first love. Randy (Laurel Holloman), a rebellious working class tomboy, meets beautiful, well-to-do Evie (Nicole Ari Parker) when she brings her Range Rover into the repair shop where Randy works after school. Immediately intrigued by each other, the two girls discover their subsequent friendship develops into an unlikely romance that impacts their lives in ways they could never have imagined. This film is a cute fairytail. Outcast lesbian teenager falls for one of the most popular girls in school, that kind of thing. (starring: Laurel Holloman and Nicole Ari Parker) A
It's In the Water
The small town of Azalea Springs, Texas goes into a frenzy when it is rumored that something in the water is turning people gay. A funny film that doesn't shy away from such weighty issues as sexual identity, heterosexism, AIDS, and intolerance. The writting and acting isn't superb, but it does have some funny parts. Plus it's cool the the story focuses on both a lesbian and gay couple. Plus the one chick looks so much like Sandra Bullock it's scary. Not that I mind. Sandy's a hottie.(starring: Keri Jo Chapman, Teresa Garrett, and Derrick Sanders) C+
Kissing Jessica Stein
Jessica is a sensitive but neurotic New York journalist who's fed up with the dating life. One day, she happens to read an intriguing personal ad, but it's in the "women seeking women" section. On a daring whim, she answers the ad, and meets funky downtown hipster Helen for drinks. To Jessica's shock, they click instantly, and a first kiss leads to an earnest, hilarious, muddling courtship. This movie cracked me up the first time I saw it. I think this film has a very realistic take on the whole bi-curious thing. I know it ticks some people off, but I like it. (starring: Heather Juergensen, Tovah Feldshuh, Jennifer Westfeldt. Westfeldt amd Juergensen adapted this film from the stage play that they wrote. ) B
The L Word
Season 1
The SHOWTIME Original Series, THE L WORD, is about a group of young women in Los Angeles, their lives, careers, and romantic relationships - both gay and straight. Jenny a gifted young writer of fiction who has just graduated from college and arrives in Los Angeles to begin her "adult life" with her boyfriend. Bette and Tina have been a couple for seven years and are trying to find the perfect sperm donor to help them start a family as they struggle with their relationship. Bette's and Tina's close network of friends includes Shane, who is the resident heartthrob; Dana, a professional tennis player not yet out of the closet; bisexual journalist Alice; Bette's half-sister Kit, who is a musician and a recovering alcoholic; and Marina, a beautiful and compelling woman who owns a West Hollywood caf. This series is a treat for any lesbian film buff. It's producers, directors and writers are the great minds behind some of the classic lesbian cinema out there. Also can I just say that I have a new found respect for Jennife Beals. Although now I can't listen to anything from "Flashdance" without wanting to go and watch this show. It's like a trigger!!!(starring: Jennifer Beals, Laurel Holloman, Mia Kirshner, Katerine Moennig, Erin Daniels, Leisha Hailey, Karina Lombard, Eric Mabius, and Pam Grier) A-
Late Bloomers
A heart warming story about two women working at a Texas High School who decide to defy their community and hold a marriage ceremony. To their surprise, the community turns up to cheer rather than jeer. Part comedy, part family drama, and all love story. A Family drama written by Gretchen Dyer and directed by her sister, Julia Dyer. It's kinda cute. It's not my favorite of the bunch but it does have it's moments.(starring: Dee Hennigan, Connie Nelson) C
Lianna
The story of an unhappily married young woman named Lianna who discovers after eight years of marriage that she is a lesbian. She falls in love with an older woman, a night school teacher, and this leads to a seperation from her doofus of a husband and her two children. Lianna's oddyssey of self-discovery is endlessly fascinating and compelling.
This movie came out in 1983, three years prior to Desert Hearts. I don't know why I had never hear this film mentioned before, but I thought it was excellent. Lianna's 'coming out' is well transitioned and explored. Unlike other films where all of a sudden the character is gay. Very well done. I give director John Sayles a B (starring: Linda Griffiths and Jane Hallaren)
> Lost & Delirious
Mary "Mouse" Bradford (Barton) has just arrived at Perkins Girls College. She soon discovers her two senior roomates, the striking, sharp-witted Paulie, (Perabo) and the charming and beautiful Tory (Par), are lovers. Once inadvertantly found out by the other students, Tory distances herself from Paulie. Mouse is then torn between her two friends. Through a sensual and violent struggle, Mouse learns what is means to be in love and how far one will go to save it.
I had a hard time with this film at first, but it grew on me. For older audiences it might seem a bit over-dramatic and cheesy, but it reminded me a lot of how confused and passionate I was as a teenager. (starring: Piper Perabo, Jessica Par, and Mischa Barton) C
Monster
Charlize Theron gives a bone chilling perforance as Aileen Wuornos, a real-life serial killer and prostitute who murdered at least seven men in Florida. Monster traces her relationship with a young woman named Selby which intertwines with Wuornos's murder spree. Writer and director Patty Jenkins spent several years researching the life of Aileen Wuornos; even interviewing Aileen's best friend and reading several letters written by Aileen herself.
Theron went through such a physical transformation it was hard for me to remember what she looked like without all the makeup. I usually have to skip through part of this film though. Some parts are just really hard to handle, but this is an excellent film.(starring: Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci) A
Mulholland Drive
![]()
A mysterious dark-haired woman (Laura Elena Harring) emerges from an accident with amnesia. Meanwhile, Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), a wide-eyed gal from Deep River, Ontario, has just landed in Los Angeles with dreams of movie super stardom. When Betty finds the nameless beauty in her aunt's apartment, she is deeply intrigued by the situation and offers to help her. This sends the two women on a bizarre search for the truth through the macabre, sun-soaked streets of the City of Angels until there is no longer any distinction between what is dream and what is reality. Originally filmed as a pilot for ABC, David Lynch's daring, open-ended vision was coldly rejected by the network. Love it love it love it. (starring: Laura Elena Harring, Naomi Watts, and Justin Theroux) B+
La Repetition
Nathalie (Emmanuel Bart) and Louise (Pascale Bussières) are friends from childhood. While studying drama at University Louise becomes hopelessly obsessed with her friend. Jealous of the male friends she has she breaks up the friendship, followed by a suicide attempt. Later, Louise marries, but finds time to see the, by now quite accomplished actress, Nathalie. They fight through the years, La Repetition following them as their friendship comes together and breaks up frequently, while never actually reaching anything that can be called a climax. This is why you don't fall in love with you best friend!!! Especially if she's like Louise. This film has what I refer to as a "uh" ending. Nothing gets resolved the credits just start.(starring: Pascale Bussières and Emmanuel Bart) C
Revolutionary Girl
Utena
This movie version of the Japanese television show takes the entire series plot and streamlines it into 80 minutes, pushing the characters into an alternate universe. Utena learns to be a duelist and fight against a righteous faction at her school. The gender-bending relations between Utena and Anthy--a friendship in the series--now take on lesbian overtones. Utena duels her classmates to protect her friend Anthy, who is the key to a magical power that could make her dream - to become a prince - come true. But Anthy hides a terrible secret, and Utena must face the truth about herself and those she loves and learn what it means to be a true hero. I love this anime. The series is awesome. Now some are wondering why this is here, but if you watch the movie, then you'll know. B
Show Me Love
The comic and heartbreaking story of Agnes, Elin growing up in the small town of Åmål, Sweden. Nothing ever happens until Elin shows up at Agnes' birthday party and Elin's life takes an unexpected turn. Stuck in the middle of two love interests, Elin tries to come to terms with her real self - and the courage it takes to be different. Originally titled Fucking Åmål, this Swedish film had the highest box-office opening in Sweden next to Titanic. Same kind of story as Incredibly True Adventures, but about twice as cute and it has a heartbreaking side to it as well. I absolutely love this movie! (starring: Alexandra Dahlström, Rebecca Liljeberg, Mathias Rust, and Erica Carlsson) A

Now don't get your hopes up. This film is not available for purchase in any format in the US yet. I just have a copy I taped off of tv, but I can guarantee you, the moment it come out I will definately get it! But for now the book will do. Beside the book is great. (starring: Rachel Stirling, Keeley Hawes, Jodhi May, and Anna Chancellor ) A

The should show this movie at PFLAG meetings. This is a good movie for parents of gays and lesbians that are having a hard time dealing.(starring: Stockard Channing, Ellen Muth, RuPaul Charles, and James Naughton) B
When Night Is Falling
Camille (Pascale Bussières), a classical mythology professor at a Christian College, is engaged to be married to Martin (Henry Czerny), a fellow theologian. However, when she meets Petra (Rachael Crawford), a flamboyant and daring circus performer, she finds herself under Cupid's spell, and falls deeply and magically in love. For the first time Camille lets passionate love and desire take over her proper and intellectual life. Terrified at the prospect of radical change, Camille is compelled to make an ultimare choice, and discovers that the true duty of the soul is desire. Want something better to get you interested? "Camille and Petra are so powerfully attracted to each other that the film has the kind of overwhelming erotic force that is rarely seen in screen romance." Beautifully filmed movie. Very erotic. Now some might find the story a bit weird, but so is life. (starring: Pascale Bussières, Rachael Crawford, Don McKellar, and Henry Czerny) A+
Wild Side
Alex (Anne Heche) is a banker by day and a call girl by night. The attraction between the two women is undeniable and they begin a passionate affair that turns out to be love. Now Alex must keep Virginia and herself away from the dangerous clutches of Bruno. Confusing story sometimes but who cares! You get to see Anne Heche and Joan Chen get it on! I can be such a pig sometimes. But hey I can admit it. (starring: Anne Heche, Joan Chen, and Christopher Walken) C-
Xena:Warrior Princess (series Finale)
In the gripping Series Finale, Xena is summoned to Japan by an old friend. Xena and Gabrielle face their biggest threat ever when they confront the evil Yodoshi and his Samurai army. Their strength, resolve and friendship will be put to the test when Xena makes the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good.
Now contrary to other Xena freaks, I liked the finale. Obviously or else I wouldn't have bought the DVD. Reneé kicks ass in this episode though, and for me it's all about the Battling Bard baby!(starring: Lucy Lawless, Reneé O'Connor, and Michelle Ang) C
