Twister
Author: Raihne

Warning: This story was a request from a fan and
since I haven't updated in so long I couldn't just
say no. So this story is a different Twist on
the Otto/Twister get together story. An
angsty one.
Summary: Twister has been having dreams about a
certain Rocket kid, and it isn't Reggie! After watching Otto from a far
and realizing that the object of his affections would be less than
accepting, what should he do?
_______________________________
<Part 1>
"Ooooh! Oh Oh OTTO!!!" Twister shot up, eyes wide
and stared down at his sheets, and the moist spot forming beneath his
abdomen. "Man! Not again!" He stood and stripped the sheets from his
bed effortlessly. He'd done this so many times before he didn't even
have to think about it anymore. Unfortunately that left his mind open
to other things.
"Man I am sick!" He looked out his window toward the
Rocket house and shivered.
He put fresh sheets on and threw the dirty ones into
the washer (on cold, so he could shower at the same time), letting it
fill before jumping into the shower and washing the last evidence from
his body. Standing in the warm spray of the shower he leaned his head
against the tiles and let his tears run over his face.
Three years. For three years he'd had a crush
on the Rocket boy. They were in ninth grade now and Twister had decided
it was finally time to tell Otto about the dreams. . . until Otto had
shown up at the shack.

"That was so gross!"
"What's up Otto man?"
"That new kid!"
"Will?"
"He was staring at me!"
"So?"
"Like he was hitting on me dude!!"
Twister blinked, holding back any expression other
than oblivious. "He beat you up?"
"Twist! He was flirting with me!"
"And that's bad?"
"Are you serious?! He's a guy!"
"So?"
"I am NOT gay!!!"
"You're usually happy."
"No! Gay! GAY! I don't do. . . THINGS with other
guys!"
"Oh, I knew that."

Twister had cried all night that night. Three years
of gathering enough courage all for nothing. Otto would never like him.
Because of something he had no control over too! He was a guy. And Otto
Rocket didn't like guys.
The shower finally began to run cold and he turned
it off and dressed for the day. No way could he go back to sleep. His
dreams about Otto always came in pairs since that day. The first would
be great and the second would be horrible. He stumbled down the stairs
and poured himself a bowl of cereal, leaving the lights off so no one
else would wake up.
It was quiet for about five minuets until Lars snuck
through the door. "'Rese? What are you doing up?"
Twister didn't answer. Back in middle school Lars
would have ignored him or threatened to pound him. But ever since his
big brother had started college he'd been a lot nicer. . . and a lot
nosier. The youngest Rodriguez had thought it was a fair trade off. It
was nice having a big brother who acted like a big brother. Until Lars
started calling him 'Rese. And asking why Twister wasn't dating. Then
he started to wish Lars would just start pounding him again.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be okay?"
"You're up before noon on a Saturday?"
"Shove it." He grumbled.
Lars sat his bags down in the hallway and walked
into the kitchen to sit beside his brother at the table. "You know
'Rese, I have two weeks home before the new term starts. Wanna do
something? Hang out a little?"
"Sure."
"Well don't sound to thrilled about it or nothin'."
Twister looked up at his big brother and Lars' smile
vanished. "You look like shit."
"Rough week."
"Wanna' talk about it?"
"No."
Lars watched him a few moments more then stood,
"Well I've been driving all night so I'm gonna take my bags up and
crash okay? Don't go anywhere without me."
"Sure."
The older boy hugged his sib and climbed the stairs
to his room. He noticed Twister's door open and peaked inside. The bed
was freshly made. Twister never made his bed unless. . . //But he
always gets mad when I try to get him with a girl. . .// Lars was many
things. He was quick tempered, rude, fiercely protective, but he was
not stupid. "So that's it." He whispered. He undressed and stared at
the ceiling from the bed in his old room. //So Maurice is gay. He
doesn't act like he's having an identity crisis so he must have
accepted it. That means he's probably got a crush on someone he's
afraid to approach. Or maybe he can't. Someone who's already taken? A
straight guy? A friend? He only hangs out with the Rockets and Dullard.
. .// He closed his eyes and let sleep take him. //A list of two guys
is a pretty small list.//
Twister threw the soggy cereal away. He hadn't
eating even a spoonful. Outside the moon was full and bright. Twister
sat out on the roof watching it for a while, thinking. He wanted to be
able to tell Lars what was bothering him. Hell, maybe Lars could offer
some good, and non lethal, advice. But his brother had just started
being civil during the past year. He didn't want him to go back to
being an asshole. That meant Twister couldn't give him a reason to be
disappointed in him. That meant no coming out.
//There's no point anyway.// He thought, staring at
the moon like it could give him an answer. //Otto is straight. He's so
strait he's homophobic! As long as I stay in the closet I can still be
his friend. As long as Otto doesn't find out I'm gay, nothing will
change.// That depressing bit of 'hope' was not as uplifting as it was
supposed to be.
<Part 2>
Twister sat on the beach with his brother, hiding
from the noon sun in the shade under the pier. He hadn't said much
since he and Lars left the house that morning. Lars was starting to
worry.
"So, what have you been up to since I left?" He
asked, sneaking a sideways glance at his little bro's profile.
"Nothin' new."
"You know, you're the soggiest Twister I've ever
seen. What happened to the guy who could blow everyone in a room away
just by walking in?"
Twister shrugged, "'m just feeling down lately."
"Is it because of Dullard?"
Genuinely confused eyes met his, "Squid? Why would
the Squid make me feel bad?"
"Haven't seen you hangin' with them. Usually Otto's
over at the crack of . . . well, noon, but you didn't even stop by his
house this morning." He watched his brother's face twist in on itself
before the younger boy turned away. //Guess it's Otto then.// "You
know, if you need to talk to someone I'm right here."
"'s okay bro."
"So Otto did something to you." Lars studied his
brother. "He didn't hurt you did he?"
". . ." Twister hugged his legs. "Don't wanna talk
about it."
Lars sighed. Twister and subtlety was not the best
combination. Well if he could be anything it was blunt. "'Rese, You
gay?" Twister's eyes filled with tears. //Got it in one.// He sighed
and gathered his brother into his arms. "Come 'ere."
After fighting down the tears for a few minuets,
Twister mumbled, "You hate me?" Without lifting his face from his
brother's chest.
"Well you did just slime my shirt. And can I just
say. . . GROSS!"
Twister laughed a little and sat back. "So you don't
hate me?"
Lars wiped the tear's from his brother's face. "Na.
Don't hate you. You're my baby bro. If I lived with you for fourteen
years and haven't started hating you yet, I think you're stuck with
me."
That earned him a smile. "cool."
"So, I'm guessing you got a crush on the Rocket
kid."
The smile vanished. "It doesn't matter." He stood up
and offered Lars a hand. "Otto isn't gay. Come on, let's get something
to eat."
The older Rodriguez rolled his eyes, "Man you eat
like a pig! How do you stay so scrawny?"
"'m not scrawny, I'm compact."
"What ever you say stick man." Lars snickered and
took of running, Twister close on his tail.
When they got to the shack it was packed. Shoebies
from wall to wall. Rocketman was probably pulling teeth trying to get
everything done. Twister froze and grabbed Lars' arm, "Come on man,
lets eat somewhere el. . ."
"Twist!"
". . . se." He finished quietly and turned to face
Otto, who was dressed in an apron and dish gloves while he bussed
tables. "Hey Otto."
"What're you doing out with Lars bro? We still
catchin' some waves at the secret spot later?"
"Uh. . . nah man, I'm gonna hang with my bro while I
can. He's only home for a couple weeks."
"Dude! It's tradition! First weekend of Shoebie
season we always hit the spot!"
"I. . ."
Lars nudged Twister in the ribs, "Why don't I just
tag along?"
Otto did not look pleased. "It's 'Our'
secret, Lars." He bit out the name like it was a bad word.
"Dude we could blindfold him or something." Twister
suggested, "I mean, he's gone most of the time anyway."
"But it's Lars!" Otto groused then frowned.
"Fine. But if he tells anyone. . ."
"He won't." Twister reassured Otto and pulled Lars
out of the Shack. "See you there man."
After they were far enough from the Shack, Lars
spoke up, "You know, for someone that isn't interested at all, Rocket
boy is really possessive about his time with you."
"It's an Otto thing man. He doesn't like to share.
Boards, clothes, friends. . ."
"But you borrow his boards and clothes all the time
bro."
"That's because I'm just another one of his things."
"That's harsh." Lars looked ahead for a while
quietly then asked, "So he's obviously okay about it if he still wants
to hang with you. . ."
"I didn't tell him."
The made the older boy freeze. "WHAT?! You mean to
tell me you're gettin' all worked up over this and you didn't even ask
him?! Twister!"
"I was going to tell him. But the new guy at school
hit on him and freaked him out. Otto is 'so' not gay."
Lars put his arm over his brother's shoulder,
"Twist, sometimes it's not about being gay or straight. It's about the
person. I mean, you and Otto have been friends forever man!"
"Yeah." Twister frowned, "And I don't want to stop
now. If I tell him he'd never speak to me again!"
"Well how do you know you aren't the person that
he'd make an exception for?"
"What if I'm not. I mean, he might be able ta handle
the whole gay thing, but gay AND crushing on him? Man he'd kill me."
"Hey Twist! Lars!" a dark skinned Hawaiian boy ran
up to them.
"Ke'onee! Dude I didn't know you were in Ocean
Shores!"
"Ya, I came ta help out my uncle Tito at the shack.
An' ta hang out wit' my awesome cuzes here in Rocket town."
"Well Otto and Reggie are workin' the shack right
now."
"Cool. Where are you going?"
"Just chillin'."
Lars watched the two of them talk. He looked back
toward the counter and caught Otto glaring at Ke'onee and a wicked plan
began to form in his head. Maurice and Ke'onee looked totally right
together. His plan slowly began to take shape, maybe, with Ke'onee's
help, he could make his brother happy again.
Unaware of his brother's scheming, Twister continued
to talk to his friend.
<Part 3>
It wasn't until they were at the 'secret spot' that
Lars finally caught the Hawaiian boy alone. Otto had dragged Twister,
Reggie, and Sam to get the cooler and snack stuff from Lars' jeep, but
the two of them weren't allowed to leave the beach without blindfolds.
//Rocket is such a spaz! Too bad he's the one Rese wants, I think
Ke'onee would be a much better choice, but hey, to each his own. And if
Otto doesn't work out, maybe Rese and Ke'onee will hit it off fer real.
. .// "Hey Ke'onee, can I ask you somethin'?"
"Sure cuz, what's up?"
"How do you feel about guys going for other guys?"
"What you mean homosexuality and that stuff? Not my
cake but I'm cool with people havin' their own thing. Why? You
interested? Cause even if I was, you're a little old for me."
"Not for me dweeb!" He waved his hands and backed
off a bit. "It's for Twister."
"Twister likes me?"
"No man! Twister likes Otto!"
"So why are you askin' me what I think man?"
"Because Otto is screwing it up as usual." Lars
looked in the direction of the jeep to make sure the other four weren't
coming back yet. "Look, Twister is totally stuck on Rocket boy, but
Otto made some really bad comments and now Rese won't tell him that he
likes him, let alone that he's gay. It's getting Twister majorly down
ya know?"
"So what can I do?"
"Act interested in Twister."
"Huh?!"
"See, Twist says Otto gets really mad when he has to
share his stuff and Twist thinks Otto sees him as just another
something he owns ya know? So maybe if someone was going to take Twist
away, Otto would have to fight for him, and if it was a romantic type
connection that was stealing him. . ."
"Then Otto would have to see that and decide."
"And Twist would have to come out and get over it
one way or the other 'cause you'd pull him out."
"But what if he starts really likin' me cuz?"
"If he starts acting like he could be getting to
deep we tell him and let him in on it, but I think any forward motion
is gonna be all you, he's so closeted he could get a job scaring little
kids in the middle of the night."
"Uh. . ."
"You know, closet monsters?"
"Must be a mainland thing."
"Oh." Lars shook his head and got back on track,
"Anyway will you do it?"
"I'm only here two weeks."
"Same here, think we can pound it into their hard
heads in two weeks?"
Ke'onee looked up at the four highschoolers sliding
down the rocky slope balancing their lunch. Twister started to fall and
Otto pushed him back up, but totally missed the way the mexican boy
leaned into his touch. "It'll be close."
"That mean you're in?"
The Hawaiian snorted, "Much more of this and I'll be
forced to lock them up together until they GET together."
"Maybe if this plan doesn't work."
"Cuz you are desperate!"
"You have no idea." Lars groaned, "You didn't see
him this morning."
"Bad?"
"Walking wounded."
"Ouch." He flinched and put a hand on the older
boy's shoulder, "Don't worry, we'll fix them up."
"Thanks bro."
Ke'onee winked and stood as their companions got to
the bottom of the hill. "Hey Twister, let me get that for you man, it
looks heavy."
Twister looked down at the six pack cooler he was
holding, "Uh. . . no?"
The other boy smiled and took it from him anyway,
"Trust me, you need to save your strength. There's a lot to ride
today." He breathed in a sexy voice.
The dark skinned boy looked out at the water and
grinned, "Yeah The waves are choice dude!"
Ke'onee arched his eyebrows and looked back at Lars.
Lars groaned. His little bro was totally clueless!
________________
Otto watched as Ke'onee pulled Twister down to sit
next to him and offered him a sub and soda. The Hawaiian was all smiles
and whispers and Otto swore he saw him TOUCHING Twister a lot more than
usual. It was just little pats or a hand squeezing a shoulder, but it
was adding up to a BIG annoyance. "Hey Twist! Wanna come over tonight?
There's a monster movie marathon on the set."
"Sorry Otto man, I just promised Ke'onee we'd go to
the pier."
"The pier? At night? What you got a double date
going or something?"
Ke'onee smiled a big, bright smile and put an arm
around Twister's shoulders, pulling him closer in a way to friendly
sort of way, "Nah man, just us."
"Maybe if you tape it we can watch the movies
later." Twister offered.
Otto frowned, "We've seen them all anyway."
"Oh. Well do you wanna come with us? It'll be fun
man?"
Ke'onee narrowed his eyes at Otto from behind
Twister and shook his head in warning.
"Sounds great." The Rocket boy almost growled.
Reggie smiled, "We can all go. I've wanted to do a
piece on the pier and the shoebie invasion for the Zine. You up to it
Sam?"
"I'll have to ask my mom. . ."
"It'll be fine!" She assured him.
Otto smirked at Ke'onee when Twister turned away to
say something to his brother, "It's settled then. We'll all go to the
pier."
Twister smiled and nodded, "Well for now there's a
tourist free ocean out there with my name on it! Come on guys!"
Sam followed Reggie and Twister to the waves but
Otto pulled Ke'onee short just out of hearing range of Lars, "Dude what
are you doing?"
"What? I can't see the sights?"
"Not with Twister!"
"Why not cuz? He's my friend."
"The pier is a make out spot and you know it!" Otto
shuddered, "I didn't take you for one of those."
"Well I didn't see your Twister saying no."
"Twist's innocent man! He doesn't know what you want
from 'im! Stay away from my bro, he's not like that!"
"He's old enough to decide for himself." Ke'onee
smiled competitively, "What? Are you afraid he'll want me like that?
What would you do if he was one of 'those' people cuz?"
"He isn't!"
"He was leaning into that hug Rocket, I think he can
choose who he likes."
"Well even if he was he wouldn't go for you!"
"Why not? You want him?"
"WHAT! NO!!!" Otto looked panicked and disgusted
with the very idea of him and another guy together.
"Then let him be with someone else. You don't want
him, what's the big deal?"
"He's my friend."
"Friends have lovers you know."
"LOVERS?!"
Ke'onee leaned into the shell shocked Rocket's space
and whispered into his ear, "You had your chance, he's been your friend
for years. Now it's my turn. He's a fox man!"
"You. . .!!" Otto made to pull away and Ke'onee
turned him around to face the ocean where Twister was trying to get Sam
to catch one of the larger waves.
"Look at him. His hair's gotten longer since I saw
you guys last time, all shaggy and perfect to dig your fingers in. He
has those bright eyes that sparkled when something makes him happy, do
you think they'd sparkle when he's doin' it?"
"Dude!"
"Shh. I love his lips, they're so perfect for. . .
certain entertaining activities."
"You. . .!"
"And his body. Man has that guy grown, last year he
was a skinny kid but this year, he's grown into his skin! All compact
muscles and slim curves, almost feminine but just hard enough to be a
guy. And below the belt. . . well those swim trunks don't hide much
man. He's not your little Twister anymore, Maurice Rodriguez is a full
on fox, and Rese and I have a whole two weeks to play. I might even ask
Tito if I can stay here indefinitely, there's an excellent reason to."
The Rocket boy pulled away from the Ke'onee and
glared at him, "I always knew you were total slime! You may have
everyone else fooled but not Twist! He'll side with me! I'm his best
friend man!"
"I think Rese is looking for something a little
more. . . friendly now. And I don't think you're right for him. You'd
shove him into a closet and offer to feed him pieces of the world. Me,
I want to let him into the sunlight. He's much too hot to hide."
Otto picked up his board and began backing toward
the water, "I'm on to you dude! You better keep away from Twister. He's
MINE."
"He could be mine."
"Your friend?"
Ke'onee smiled and licked his lips in a big showy
motion, "No, just mine."
Otto stumbled backwards into the water and quickly
joined his friends and Ke'onee walked back to Lars and snatched a
sandwich from him.
"Dude you should be on tv. You totally had me
believing you were after him!"
"Did you see Otto's face?" The Hawaiian laughed, "Oh
he is in denial so deep it's painful!"
"But he wants him?"
"Oh yeah. He didn't even say anything about Twister
being gay after the first bit, just about him being 'his'."
"So you think we can pull this off?" Lars asked
hopefully, watching Otto slide his board up close to Maurice's.
"I think Otto rocket wont know what hit him."
"So what do we need to speed things up?"
Ke'onee though a bit, then smiled, "Otto sees
Twister half naked all the time with all the days they spend at the
beach right?"
"Yeah? So?"
"Well there's an old saying, 'The most exotic fruit
is the sweetest.'"
"And for those of us who don't speak in sayings?"
"I think 'Rese' needs to dress up nice for the cool
night air on the pier. You know some of those fast rides get really
chilly in the night wind."
Lars began to grin. "I think as his brother it's my
job to see that he's well protected from the cold."
"I'm thinking leather for the lower half, tight
leather."
"I'm thinking skin tight cotton on top."
"I'm thinking operation 'Un-closet a Twister' is in
full swing." Ke'onee grinned, "You know, this is going to be fun."
<Part 4>
Twister looked at his brother in desperation, "Lars! I can't go
to the pier in this!"
"It's cold at night."
"I look like a pimp!"
"You look fine." Lars ushered hi slittle brother
over to the mirror and smiled, looking him over carefully. "Otto won't
know what hit him."
Those bright eyes turned on his brother and
Twister's face scrunched up, close to tears. "Don't do this okay man?
I'm cool with Otto as it is. I told you I don't wanna push him. What if
he finds out and freaks?"
"What, he's gonna find out yer gay because you dress
nice?"
"Leather?"
"Nice." Lars smirked. "If he says anything, there a
birthday gift from me and I made you try them out."
"But. . ."
The doorbell rang, cutting off any further
arguments. "Hey! He's here!"
"Huh? Who?"
Lars opened the door and blinked at Ke'onee, then at
Otto, Sam and Reggie. "I thought you were coming alone."
"I thought so too cuz but they were all hanging
around so they followed me."
Otto elbowed passed and sneared at the Hawiian,
"What? I can't come to my best bro's hou. . ." His words died off when
he noticed Twister standing in the doorway to the living room.
"Twister?"
The orange haired boy smiled weakly and tugged at
the form fitting shirt, "Hey bro, wazup?"
Otto blinked, "What are you wearing?"
Reggie and Sam peeked in and their jaws hit the
ground. "Whoa!"
Sam looked him up and down, "Um. . . nice clothes?"
The Rocket girl was only a little more helpful,
"Whoa! Twist! You look totally hot!"
Twister blushed and looked down at his sandles.
"Nah dude." Ke'onee walked up to him and put a
finger under his chin, forcing his head up, "Don't look away. You look.
. ." He lowered his voice and looked the other boy over with a smirk,
". . . you are really awesome, cuz."
Lars watched Otto silently steaming and
smirked, "Well since all of you are going I might as well tag along
too." He offered a bright smile and held open the door.
Otto moved between Twister and Ke'onee almost
immidiately.
"Hey Rocket." Lars caught a hold of his shirt and
let his brother and the Hawiian get further ahead, smirking to himself
when the older boy's arm slipped across Twister's shoulders in a
too-close-to-be-just-freinds kind of way. "Stop."
"What are you talking about?" He frowned and shoved
free of the offending grip.
"This thing with Maurice." The older Rodriguez
motioned ahead of them. "Look, you've had him for years man and you
obviously don't want him like 'that' so let him have a chance with
someone else."
"Twister is not gay!" The auburn haired boy yelled
and then looked forward to make sure he hadn't been heard by the
others, who were getting further and further ahead. His eyes locked
onto Ke'onee's hand, which was traveling below the belt.
"Just because he hasn't told you doesn't mean it
isn't true."
"He tells me everything man! He's my bro!"
Lars frowned, "From what I hear you don't like gays
too much."
"Huh?"
"You told Twister how gross it was when that kid hit
on you."
"He told you that?"
"You might be his 'bro', but I'm his brother."
Lars watched the gears turn in Otto's head before
the younger boy blinked and frowned. "Youre lying. What are you trying
to do? Break up our gang?"
"Would you break up your 'gang' because he's gay?"
"I. . ."
"No wonder he didn't tell you." Lars walked ahead,
his smile hidden in the darkness.
Otto stared after them before running to catch up.
Lars was just messing with his head. Ke'onee must have given him ideas
with all his flirting, that was all. No way Twister was gay. He
flinched when Ke'onee's hand slid to his freind's leather clad bottom.
//Twist's gonna go nuts!//
But Twister didn't go nuts. He blushed and smiled
shyly at the other boy. Otto could see them clearly in the streetlights
ahead. Twister said something and Ke'onee laughed and whispered
something into his ear that made Twister blush harder. Otto's lip
curled up in a snarl. //What the. . .?!//
______________________________
Twister tensed when the freindly arm Ke'onee had
rested on his shoulder's started to slip lower. "Uh. . . dude, could
you move it?"
"Whadya mean cuz?"
He swallowed and turned his head away for a minuet,
//maybe it's a island thing.// "Nothing."
They'd gone a little further when the hand started
moving lower again. "Eep!" He squeeked when it cupped his butt. "Uh. .
." He turned to Ke'onee, his face beet read, "Could you not do that?"
The other boy smirked and moved in closer, bringing
his lips right up to Twister's ear and keeping the hand firmly in
place, "Just play along."
"Huh?"
"Your brother has a mad excellent plan cuz. We're
gonna get you the Rocket boy."
Twister's breath sped up and his blush deepened.
"Lars told you about that?"
"Maurice, not to be mean, but I think anyone but
your little group could tell you're hot for him. Rocket boy is as dense
as you are."
"Me?"
"I've only been flirting with you non stop since I
got here. Otto's definitly noticed. He already told me to stay away
from you."
"Otto said that?" Those midnight black eyes sparkled
with hope and Ke'onee smiled.
"Yeah. I pointed out some of your finer qualities
and he freaked on me."
"So Lars made me wear this. . ."
"To get Otto's attention. It worked."
The mexican boy smiled, "Yeah! Did you see his
face?"
"Most definitly a kodak moment."
They laughed and kept walking, Ke'onee's hand still
firmly on uncharted territory.

Sam watched the drama unfolding behind them in quick
glimpses and blinked as it all came together. Twister's weird behavior
for the past few weeks suddenly made so much sense! "Reggie!"
"What is it Sammy?"
"I think I just discovered why Twister's been . . ."
"Depressingly depressed?"
"Yeah." He smiled and motioned behind them with his
eyes.
The Rocket girl glimpsed behind them and looked back
quickly. "Did you see Ke'onee feeling Twister up?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, I'm not going mental then." She breathed and
looked again. "Twister isn't objecting either."
"Check out Otto."
She did and gasped, "Rocket boy's about to blow!"
"Reggie, if Twister is gay. . ."
She groaned, "And Otto was spouting off about how
gross it was. . ."
"What if he had a thing for Otto?"
"It would explain the moping."
"So what do we do?"
Reggie looked back again then kept walking and
shrugged. "We can't do anything Sammy. And if Otto doesn't accept it. .
."
"Twister is our freind. Shouldn't we say something?"
Reggie shook her head. "It isn't about us." She
frowned as they reached the pier, "But Rocket boy better not mess this
up."
"But Otto isn't gay."
"Oh. . ." She shook her head. "I think the man
protests to much."
Sam just held his head and sighed. When did things
get so complicated?
