One Mess After Another
epilogue

The day of Duo's funeral was a week later. Heero stood at the grave site after everyone had gone, he stayed there all night, and the next day. WuFei had to tranquilize him again to get him back to Quatre's house.

"He isn't getting better." The Chinese boy noted after he had put Heero into his bed.

 "I know." Trowa sighed.

 "He needs help."

 "He needs Duo." Quatre whispered.

Heero woke up in the middle of the night and went the mirror. He saw himself, how weak he had
become. Duo. . . I miss you so much!

He walked into the bathroom and dug around Duo's things for a razor blade. He ran his finger over
the thin edge and watched in silence as the blood oozed from the wound. Duo, I'm coming. Then he
remembered something Duo had told him once. . .

‘Stop trying to self destruct Heero! If you kill yourself you might not get to heaven.'

It had been said as a joke but. . . what if Duo had been right? Duo was definitely in heaven and
Heero wanted to be with him. So I can't kill myself . . .

WuFei was awakened by a banging on his door. He got up grumbling and opened it, "What?!"

 "Kill me."

"You sound like Relena." WuFei growled, "Go back to bed Heero."

"WuFei, kill me." Heero glared at his friend, "I want to be with Duo, suicides go to Hell so you
have to do this for me!"

"You want me to kill you."

 "Yes."

"So you can be with Duo."

 "Yes!"

The boy frowned, "Ok, time for bed Heero."

 "I am serious!"

 "So am I."

 "WuFei. . . please."

The Chinese boy's eyes widened, he had never heard Heero sound so broken and alone!

Heero sighed and left the hall. He took up his jacket and walked out to Duo's grave and sat there
silently. Finally he spoke, "I love you no da Duo." He whispered as he fell to sleep.

 "I love you too."

When he woke up Heero went into the living room and found the whole group standing around the
couch. "You look like you saw a ghost."

WuFei nodded, "He brought you home." He stepped aside and on the couch. . . Duo sat there
drinking syrup. . . achem. . . I mean coffee. He was radiant! He seamed to glow with an etherial
softness, so beautiful.

 "Duo?!"

 "Heero." He smiled.

 "But you. . . you're. . ."

"An angel." He smiled and spread out his gothic, bat-like wings. They were decorated as if they
were part of an elaborate sculpture, but Duo looked more beautiful than and statute.

"Are you the Reaper?" Heero asked.

"No, I was one of the ones chosen to be interviewed for the job, God himself picked my soul up
and took me to train. I told him I couldn't stay though."

 "Doshite?"

"I had a promise to keep."

 "Nani?"

Duo smiled and placed his mug on the counter top, "I did say forever Heero."

 "And you never lie."

 "Right."

 "So what are you?"

He grinned, "I wanted to be with you, so I left the afterlife and came back here. Now I'm just a
normal everyday whatchamacallit with wings."

"That's an oxymoron." WuFei rolled his eyes.

"Hey didn't anyone ever tell you it isn't nice to make fun of the dead?" Duo frowned.

WuFei sweat-dropped, "I need to buy you a dictionary."

"Can we still. . . ?" Heero asked uncertainly.

"You can do whatever you want to me." Duo grinned lustily. "I'm me. For the most part, fully
functional."

Heero threw his arms around Duo and wept with joy. "I thought you were gone."

"So did I, I don't think anyone has ever fought God as hard as I did."

The two boys slid to the floor, still embracing.

 "Heero."

"How long can you stay here?"

"Eternity." He smiled, "I figure I can live out this lifetime with you, then we can go to Heaven
together and be reincarnated together."

"How will you hide the wings?"

Duo grinned and wrapped them around his shoulders, they turned into  a cloak. "Jackets are
harder, but I can get them too." He said proudly.

 Heero nodded approvingly.

"What was it like?" Quatre asked.

"Boring!" Duo made a face, "I missed you guys!"

"What did you do while you were gone?"

"I learned a lot." He shrugged, "Like endless school."

"Are you sure it was Heaven you went to?" Trowa snickered, showing his odd sense of humor for
the first time.

 Duo ignored him.

"I don't care how much you learned never do that to me again!"

"I didn't want to go Heero." He said quietly.

Heero hugged him closer, "I know. I know."

Duo kissed him softly then harder as Heero responded to his kiss with passion. Neither had seen
the other in almost two weeks, the tension inside them was horrendous!

"Mmm, bedroom." Heero mumbled as Duo's petting threatened to drive all sane thought from his
head.

"H. . . hai." Duo nodded and they both set on making up for lost time.

The others sweat-dropped and Wufei suffered a very large nosebleed.

Duo was awakened in the middle of the night by Heero's soft prodding on his shoulder. "Mmm,
What?"

"Talk to me." Heero said softly.

Duo stared at him incredulously, "You actually want me to talk?"

"I thought I would never hear your voice again. Do you know how much that hurt? I've gotten used to it."

"The guys 'll think you've flipped."

 Talk to me."

 "I love you."

 "That's it?"

Duo grinned and mimicked the voice he used purposely to get a rise out of Heero. His eyes wide
and innocent. "Oi Heero! What 'cha doin'? Can I see? Hm?"

Heero almost smiled and Duo laughed.

 "Heero?"

 "Hm?"

"What do you want to do when the war is over?"

 "Be with you."

 "Nothing else?"

 "No."

"Where do you want to live?"

 "In your arms."

Duo kissed him tenderly and smiled, "This conversation can only head one way ya know."

Heero moaned his agreement and returned Duo's kiss, clinging to him for dear life.

When they emerged from their room the next day Duo was caught in three sets of strong arms and he laughed at his friends odd behavior. "Woah! I guess you guys missed me huh?"

"Never do that to us again Duo." WuFei ordered, "I had to give Heero tranquilizers to calm him
and it isn't something I want to repeat."

"Well now I really am death." Duo grinned broadly, "And death can never die."

Heero hugged Duo from behind and kissed his slender neck, "We have a mission."

 "Already?!"

Heero nodded and continued to nuzzle Duo's neck, loving the contact.

"How many of us are going?"

 "Just us two."

"What's the mission?" Duo was intrigued.

 "Our honeymoon baka."

Duo gave a whoop of joy and flung his arms around Heero's neck laughing with joy. Heero hugged him back, spun him around and smiled.  "God I love you."

"Ditto Heero, I love you too!" Duo sighed.
