Finding Anja was never a hard task. She let her Ki flow so freely anyone could trail it. Keiko frowned, Kurama would have to talk to her about that. When she cleared the brush that surrounded Anja's favorite glade, she saw her immediately. It would have been a mystery if anyone didn't notice her. She was laughing gleefully and chasing around a silver/black fox with nine tails. That would have been odd enough but the fact that she wore only a pair of Kuronue's boxer shorts and her bra, both sporting a barrage of winking smiley faces, was too much to overlook. She finally caught the fox by one of his tails and they both collapsed in a pile of skin, hair and fur. Slowly the fur grew longer and eight of the tails shrunk in and the fox transformed into a man with fox ears, long hair, and a long tail. Other than that he wore a pair of boxer shorts much like those Anja was wearing.
The two wrestled around on the ground, stealing kisses and touches as each tried to subdue the other. It ended with Anja squealing and Kuronue tickling her silly. "Ahahaha! Stop!"
The brown haired girl stepped from the cover of the woods then. "Anja?"
The girl and Youko jumped apart guiltily and both blushed.
Keiko smiled and shook her head, "You two are crazy you know that?"
Anja smiled and nodded energetically glomping onto her fox.
Kuronue smiled and shrugged, "What brings you here?"
Keiko's smile turned serious, "Trouble.
Yuusuke wanted to see you. He
said it's important."
"A mission?!" Anja looked at her hopefully
she had yet to go on a mission
with her team, though Hiei had been training
her for them long enough..
Keiko shrugged.
Anja jumped up and hurried over to where
her cloths hung still soaking
wet. From what? Keiko didn't want to know. The
American stood before her
moments later, "Ta da!"
Kuronue just grinned and turned into his
human form, already fully
clothed.
"Well fine if you wanna do it the easy way." Anja smiled.
Kuronue ruffled her hair and the two of
them started to wrestle again
covering Anja's damp clothes with a liberal coating
of mud.
"Um, Yuusuke needs to see you, remember?" Keiko hinted.
"Oh! Yeah!" The two smiled and ran after Keiko.
When they arrived, everyone else was already
there. Kurama had a fit
over Anja's state of disarray and Kuwabara had
a ball teasing her and her
brother.
"Oi! You guys listen up!" Yuusuke called over the din.
"Yeah?"
"Koenma says there's a Youkai circus that
somehow got stuck in
Ningenkai and we need to take it back."
"Youkai circus?" Anja clapped, "Sounds like fun!"
Kurama sighed in resignation and nodded,
"Ok, sure. Yuusuke, could you
lone Anja some clothes?"
The boy looked at Anja then at Kurama, "Are you sure they'll fit?"
Kurama looked at the girl with a funny expression,
"She wears my clothes
all the time."
"And mine." Kuronue said.
"Hn." Hiei agreed.
Anja shrugged, "Well, they're comfy."
Kuwabara and Yuusuke face vaulted and Yuusuke
went to fetch Anja some
clean pants and a T-shirt. She slid them on and
Kuronue almost drooled at the
sight of her firm rear encased snugly in the
trousers.
She grinned and wiggled her hips a few times
holding her hands above
her head, "Hm, I think I fit in these better
than you do Yuusuke-kun." She
teased.
Keiko slapped Yuusuke across the face to
tear his eyes away from the
other girl.
"What?!" He cried.
Anja laughed, "Let's go check out the circus!"
The Youkai circus was set up in a clear
spot just outside of Tokyo. The
ningen who were there thought it was all one
big act. Anja thought it was great!
The team was having a hard time following her
as she zipped from one place to
the next. She stopped longest at the animal cages,
where an odd, furry, fairy-
like creature with bat ears and wings sat playing
a little flute. It was only about
eight inches tall!
"Oh he's so adorable!" She cried, "What's his name?"
The Youkai in charge of the cages looked
uncomprehending at Anja and
so she repeated it in Youkai. That brought a
grin to the keeper's face. "Finally!
Someone who speaks normally!"
Anja smiled, "Hai, Kuronue and Kurama are teaching me."
"Not Chimera Kuronue and Youko Kurama!"
He looked down at the smiling
kid.
"Of course! Kurama is my brother, Kuronue is my Koi."
The keeper smiled widely, "Ah! Then we are still in Makai then!"
"No." Anja shook her head, "You got turned
around somewhere, this is
Ningenkai."
"But you speak Youkai."
"I'm part of a sort of rescue team, we're here to help you back."
"Marvelous!"
"Now you never answered me, What is his name?"
"Don't have a name." The keeper frowned, "He's a Chibiera."
"Chibiera?"
"A kind of tiny Chimera type thing we keep
as pets. Only this one is
smarter. He plays music and communicates a bit,
don't talk though, he's still an
animal."
"I think he's precious!" Anja smiled.
The Chibiera crept up to the bars where
her hands rested and reached
through, touching her palm. She smiled and it
smiled back then offered her it's
flute. She smiled, "It's too small for me, but
here," Then she took out her
harmonica and played a few notes,
and he copied her tune. She smiled broadly
and took the harmonica to her lips again, playing
a bit harder tune. He mimicked
it again!
"Wow!" She cooed and caressed the little ears.
"Seems he's taken a liking to ya."
"I've taken A liking to him too." Anja grinned.
"Since he doesn't have a
name, would you let me name him?"
The keeper shrugged, "Don't see why not."
"Then your name can be. . . Canon, like
the song, since you like music so
much."
The little thing smiled and flew around the cage in a funny little ballet.
"Hahaha, You like that huh?"
It came to rest it's cheek on her hand and purr in a catlike fashion.
Anja gestured, "I'll teach you a canon, would you like that Canon?"
The little thing nodded.
She was going through a quick rendition
of Pachabel's canon when her
friends found her.
"Anja! Where have you been!?"
She smiled and Canon raised flute he started
to play. "I've been right
here. Isn't this the cutest little Youkai you've
ever seen!" She looked up at the
group and amended, "Besides my Koi of course
and cuddled up to Kuronue.
Canon finished the song and she clapped, "First time too! Wow!"
"Anja we're on a mission." Yuusuke reminded her.
"Not a very tough one," She commented, "They
want to go home! They
just can't get back. Ask the keeper there."
"It's true, we didn't mean to come here."
While the boys were talking about how to
get the circus back Anja talked
to Canon. "I wonder if you could learn to do
sign language." She mused then
smiled, "This is your name." She signed out the
letters with her hands, "Now
you try."
Canon signed back his name and Anja clapped,
"Perfect! Now how about
my name. Anja.
A-N-J-A. Like this." She signed it out and Canon
pointed to her before signing
her name, then to himself and signed his own.
"Yes!" She smiled brightly, "What a smart little Youkai you are!"
"Anja." Kurama called her.
She looked up. "Hai?"
"We have everything straitened out here,
Botan is going to help them get
back now."
"Oh." She sounded kind of down.
"Do you want to stay with them until they leave?"
"Yeah!" She smiled brightly.
Kurama laughed, "Ok then. That was simple enough."
"let's go report to Koenma." Yuusuke nodded.
When they were gone Anja turned back to
Canon, "Guess you have to go
now Canon."
The little creature looked like it was crying.
"Oh! Don't cry! I can come to Makai and visit you! It'll be fun!"
It didn't help. He still cried.
"Poor thing." The keeper said softly, "Don't
wanna leave ‘is first friend."
He sighed, "Tell ya what. If you want to, ‘e's
yours. Don't eat much, not picky,
and house broken. And the little thing seams
ta like you."
"You mean you'd let me keep him?!" Anja cried brightly.
"I have a brother in Reikai jail." He told
her, "He told me about the pretty
pretty." Anja grimaced at the name and the keeper
laughed. "He told me about
She-Who-Cares." He amended.
You're her ain't ya?"
Anja nodded.
"Then I owe you more than I can ever repay
for your kindness to my
brother, you made his sentence a little easier
and got him smilin' again. Consider
the Chibiera a gift for your kindness." He smiled
then, "‘Sides, my brother said
you ‘ave a thing for bats."
Anja laughed and nodded and the keeper let
the Chibiera out of the cage.
It flew strait to Anja's shoulder and sat there
happily.
"I think you two will be good friends."
The keeper smiled. "Just
remember, ‘e loves music and also, this particular
little one has a fondness for
watermelon and star fruit."
"Wow! Me too!" Anja smiled and tickled the
little guys tummy, "We're
going to get along just fine." She looked up
at the keeper once more before
Botan came to take him back. "Is there anything
else I should know?"
The man shook his head, "They're lovable
little friendlies." He smiled,
"Take good care of him."
"Hai." Anja smiled and waved good bye then
set off for home with her new
pet. The Chibiera played it's flute softly for
a while then yawned. Anja picked it
up carefully and let in nestle in the crook of
her arm.
"When at night I go to sleep, fourteen
angels watch do keep.
Two my head are guarding, two my feet are
guiding.
two are on my right hand, two are on my
left hand.
Two who o're me cover, two who o're hover,
two to whom tis given to guide my steps to heaven.
she smiled lovingly as the little thing fell asleep.
It's little snores were too cute!
Hiei stood in the tree outside Kurama's window. He had been standing there for a long time now, trying to decide weather or not he should go in. His feelings confused him so much! He didn't understand them at all. But he loved the warmth Kurama made in him, he loved being near the fox. He loved. . . he loved him. He just couldn't say it.
All through the mission earlier he had watched the red head, his whole body had been aware of him. Every nerve every cell tingled in want and need. For a kiss. For the contact that told him that Kurama loved him.
The red head opened the window and leaned on the sill, "Hiei, please come in." He sighed, "Why wont you come to see me? What did I do? Did I rush you?" He lowered his head, "I'm sorry."
The fire Youkai watched Kurama move around his room, getting ready for bed, the sad look on his face was the Koorime's undoing. He slipped silently in the window and looked up at the fox.
"Hiei." Kurama breathed.
"Hn."
"Hiei are you made at me."
"Stupid fox."
Kurama frowned, "Yes, maybe I am a stupid
fox. Maybe it's stupid to even
hope you could love me."
Hiei turned around to look out the window.
Kurama shook with hurt. He grabbed the Koorime
from behind and held
him close, going down on his knees so he was
closer to Hiei's height. So if he
turned, they would be able to look into each
other's eyes. "But I love you so
much. I can't help it."
Hiei brought his arms up slowly to enfold
Kurama's then turned to face
him with eyes bright with uncertainty, before
he could change his mind the little
youkai leapt at Kurama, kissing him with every
ounce of love inside of him,
hoping to tell his fox without words that he
loved him, even if he hadn't said the
words.
Kurama threw his arms around Hiei and kissed
him back just as strongly.
Both of them fell back to the floor still holding
each other, locked in a moment of
pure love and passion. Hiei tugged at Kurama's
shirt, sending buttons
scattering over the floor, needing the closeness
of skin on skin. He quickly
stripped himself of his own shirt and pressed
their bare chests together, almost
desperate to be near Kurama's warmth.
The fox seemed to understand. He held Hiei
close, tight in his arms and
stood up moving them both to the bed. Their lips
never parted. The two boys
held on to one another as if they were both one
beat of the same heart. When
they had to stop for air, Hiei rested his head
on Kurama's chest and the Youko
laid his cheek on the Koorime's soft but spiky
hair. "I love you Hiei." He said
softly, "I love you so much! Words can't describe
how much I love you."
Hiei loved his fox's declarations. He curled
up closer and ordered softly,
"Try."
Kurama smiled at this, it meant Hiei wanted
to be closer, that he was
ready to hear those words. He sighed and tried
to give Hiei the words he
needed. "Without you it hurts me, when we're
apart I worry about you until we're together again, my heart feels empty
when you aren't near me. When you are near me, I love you so much I feel
like I'll drown in it. A warmth floods my body and I feel like screaming
to the world that you're mine but at the same time, I can't make a sound
past the love that rises in my chest until it fills me to my throat. You
make me whole, you complete me. Everything I am I want you to have, everything
I was I want you to know and at the same time I'm afraid if you did know
everything you would leave me forever. You're like my sun, my air, my blood.
Without you I'm empty. Only when I have you near me do I truly feel whole.
My world revolves around you." He kissed the soft black hair and smiled
at the soft, even breaths coming from the boy he held. "I love you Hiei.
I love you." He stretched out on his side and cuddled the Koorime close,
it was a little early to go to bed, but Kurama couldn't think of another
place he'd rather be.
He was awakened hours later by an enraged growl coming from Anja's room. He and Hiei were there in seconds ready to defend. They were given an odd surprise. Anja stood up on her desk, trying to coax a Chibiera down off of the ceiling fan at the same time yelling a Kuronue for scaring him up there in the first place.
"Anja." Kurama said in a deadly calm voice.
"Oh Kurama! Thank the Gods, could you help
me here?" Anja asked,
"Canon won't come down."
"Canon?"
"My Chibiera."
"Yours?!"
"The keeper gave him to me." She smiled,
"He's really smart, he's already
learned to use sign language for things like,
I'm hungry or tired, and simple
things like that."
"It called me an asshole." Kuronue frowned.
Anja stuck her tongue out at him, "Well you shouldn't have sat on him!"
"I didn't see him! He was in my spot anyway!"
Hiei looked up at the fan and growled, "Go to Anja."
The Chibiera looked at him for one moment,
startled at his tone of voice,
and then obeyed and went to sit on Anja's shoulder.
"Ah!" She smiled, "Thank you Hiei."
"Anja." Kurama started.
"Hm?" She looked at him with a smile in her eyes.
He gave in, "We'll talk in the morning."
He smiled, "Now soothe your Youko
before he thinks you don't love him anymore."
Kurama shot this order over his
shoulder as he and Hiei went back to bed.
Anja sat between Kuronue's legs and rubbed
her nose against his then
settled into his embrace, "You know I'll always
love you, don't you Kuro."
He smiled and nuzzled her neck. "Hai. Koi."
The Chibiera chirped and rubbed against
Kuronue's cheek and Anja
laughed, "He forgives you for sitting on him.
The youko rolled his eyes, "Oh joy."
"Be nice." Anja smiled.
Kuronue cocked an eyebrow and looked down
at her, running a finger up
her spine.
"But not ~too~ nice." She grinned and they
both giggled and laid down to
sleep. Kuronue took his fox form and the Chibiera
curled up on top of his tails.
And smiled and hugged her Youko then fell fast
asleep.
The next day, thankfully, was Saturday.
Anja slept in with her Koi until
and ungodly late hour and then yawned and went
downstairs in her sleep
clothes to get brunch.
"Finally awake I see." Kurama smiled from the table.
"Barely."
"Now tell me about that creature."
"He's my Chibiera, Canon. The keeper gave
him to me because he had
heard about what I did for his brother in Reikai
jail and wanted to thank me."
"And what will you do with it?"
"Keep it."
"Anja. . ."
"I'm keeping it." Her voice was very firm.
"What does it eat?"
"Anything."
"Is it house trained?"
"Yes."
"Is it friendly?"
"Hai."
Kurama sighed and looked at the little creature
who road on Kuronue's
back. It was kind of cute. . . "Ok, you can keep
it."
"Yes!"
"Yuusuke will never let me live this one
down."
"She has a what?!" Yuusuke asked in shock.
"A Youkai for a pet. The keeper at that
circus gave her the little Chibiera."
Kurama sighed, waiting for Yuusuke and Kuwabara
to stop laughing.
"Hope she doesn't take in many more strays!" Kuwabara laughed.
"Most girls just pick up lost kittens but not Anja!" Yuusuke chuckled.
Anja waved and walked up to them.
"Speak of the devil. . ."
She just grinned, "And here I come."
"Is that it?"
"Uhuh."
"It's cute!" Keiko cooed and petted it's
head. "You know what, I have
some old doll cloths that might fit it. . ."
"Yeah!"
The two girls left for Keiko's house and
the boys couldn't help but feel
sorry for the poor little thing. That ‘poor little
thing' came back with Anja that
night wearing black jeans, a black vest, and
the proud new owner of a tiny
leather jacket. It didn't look too upset.
Anja smiled as she helped her little pet
out of the outfit and into bed.
"Later we'll get you all sorts of cool stuff.
You're perfect size for doll houses,
maybe I can build you a little castle."
The Chibiera chirped it's joy and Anja snuggled
up with Kuronue.
Kurama came in to check on her later that
night and his eyes went wide
as saucers. Hiei snuck under his fox's arm to
see what was going on.
There on the bed lay Anja, Kuronue, and
little Canon, all dressed in
matching smiley face boxers. "I don't think I
can take many more of her
surprises." Kurama groaned.
Hiei smirked and closed the door.
