C&C is the fruit of all future fics.
Anja sat in her room studying. Actually,
her version of studying was hacking into the school's main computer banks
and stealing the test questions, but hey, It worked! Canon sat on her head
listening to the CD she had playing. The little Chibiera sure loved music!
Anja smiled and sang along to the tune as the questions printed out. She
danced around her room belting out the familiar refrain as the Chibiera
darted through the air in an odd ballet of flight.
I'm a desperado! Underneath your window!
I see your silhouette, are you my Juliet?
I feel A mad connection with your body!
Shake your Bon Bon shake your Bon Bon shake your Bon Bon
Anja laughed and wriggled her pert rear to emphasis her words.
Kuronue chose that moment to climb through
the window. He chuckled and
joined in the fun singing the Spanish chant
Hola amiga ah amiga
Oh my temple of desire
Hola amiga mi amiga
Let my spirit take you higher
Anja laughed and sang with him. . .
We'll go around the world in a day
Don't say no, no shake it my way
Shake your Bon Bon shake your Bon Bon, shake your Bon Bon
Kurama walked into the room looking very annoyed. "Anja I do not call this studying!"
She grinned.
"You have a test tomorrow!"
"I'm covered!" She replied over the music.
Kurama flipped the power off and Anja tried
her hardest to keep a strait
face, "Gotta love Ricky Marten, ne?"
"Ne." Kurama sighed, "Anja, You are going
to go deaf listening to music up so
loud."
"You know there is no safe way to answer
that comment." She told him
honestly.
"I know." He was just as honest, "Why do you think I use it so much?"
She stuck her tongue out at him.
Her brother sighed, "I'm serious Anja, you
need to take school a little more
seriously or you wont graduate."
She smiled, "I have a running and standing 4.0 average."
The red head rolled his eyes, "You think your smart huh?"
"I know I am."
"There is no safe way to answer that." Kurama mimicked her earlier words.
Anja just winked.
Kurama gave up for the moment. "I see you got the Chibiera a doll house."
Anja smiled and looked at the little scale
model of a castle that sat on her
table. "I made it myself. It even has working
plumbing."
Canon walked inside and shut the tiny door
then a melody floated up from the
castle. . .
I'm a desperado, underneath you window
I see your silhouette, are you my Juliet. . .
All three of them burst out laughing. "And did I mention a nice little sound system?"
Shori walked in just then and smiled at the children, "Lunch is ready."
"Hai kaasan, can Kuronue stay for lunch?"
"Hai. Of course." Shori smiled. Anja had
certainly grown to love her new home
and country. She absently wondered if Shuu-chan
was enjoying America. "Did you
make that Anja?"
She pointed to the castle.
"Hai Kaasan."
"It is very good."
Chibiera's coo could be heard over the music
and Anja laughed, she could just
imagine the little creature reclining in the
bath tub she had set up with the wall
torches flickering in time to the song.
"Is that little thing you brought home in there?" Shori asked.
"Hai Kaasan, I made it for Canon."
"You and your animals. I don't even recognize half of them." Shori puzzled.
Anja just smiled.
After lunch they went to visit Yuusuke at
the ramen shop where he was
working. Keiko greeted them when they walked
in, "Ohayo Anja!"
Chibiera flew from Anja's shoulder to perch
on Keiko's and the girl grinned, "You
look quite pretty today." She complemented the
little creature who was dressed in a
Robin Hood like tunic and hose. "How is
his castle coming?"
"I finished it yesterday." Anja smiled,
"You have to come see it! it's definitely the
bomb!"
"Bomb?" Kurama asked.
Keiko smiled, "Anja is teaching me American
slang, When she says it's ‘The Bomb'
she means it's awesome."
Yuusuke groaned, "I can't take those two together anymore!"
Kurama and Kuronue laughed.
"Well at least I have a friend my own gender.
You're the one that kept bugging
me that only hanging around boys wasn't good
for me."
Yuusuke mumbled something about his big mouth and the girls smiled.
As they left the store the quiet was split
by a scream. Anja's gaze shifted to
the woman crying, her son was in the road, the
child right in the path of a car! She
reacted out of instinct more than conscious decision
and threw herself into the
street, knocking the boy out of the way and to
safety.
She jumped a little before the car hit her,
and smashed into the windshield
before being flung into the street behind it.
The driver slammed on the brakes and
rushed to the girls aid.
Kuronue was there first. "ANJA!" He picked
up the crumpled form and felt for
a pulse. "She's alive!"
Kurama looked at the girl in worry and turned
to the crowd that had gathered,
"Call an ambulance, my sister is hurt."
When the ambulance got there all of the
boys piled inside and rode with her to
the hospital except Kuwabara, who went to tell
Shori.
The siren's wail was like a dirge.
Kuronue paced the waiting room with a hard
and worried step that had all of
the other patients and family squirming in their
seats. If he had been in Youko form his
ears and tail would have been twitching. He looked
up every time the doors opened
but it was never for him. No news.
"Kuronue sit down." Kurama said softly,
getting up and taking his friend's hand.
"Please Kuro, you are making everyone nervous,
she'll be fine."
Kuronue frowned and shook his head then
started to pace again. "What is
taking so long?! There should be news, anything!"
Yuusuke stood up and grabbed the ningen/Youko
by the shoulders and forcing
him into a chair. "SIT DOWN!"
Kuro sat.
Kurama smiled and patted his friend's hand, "It's ok." He sighed, "She'll be fine."
"I should be in there with her, I should have stopped her I. . ."
"Stop it." Yuusuke ordered, "Should have,
could have, these things wont help
Anja."
He frowned and looked up at the clock, "Two
hours! What are they doing in two
hours!"
"They know what they're doing." Kurama comforted.
Canon flitted from one shoulder to another,
cooing worriedly and flashing signs
at them but none of them knew his signs but Anja.
He twirled around in irritation trying
to grasp what was happening.
You are both driving me crazy!" Yuusuke
plucked up the Chibiera by the wings
and plopped him down on the arm of the chair,
"Sit still!"
Shori chose that moment to run in with Kuwabara,
"What is going on? What's
happening?"
"She is still in with the doctors Kaasan." Kurama soothed.
Shori nodded and sat down to wait.
Anja blinked her eyes, "God! Did anyone
get the plate number of that truck?!"
She asked jokingly, then she remembered, "Oh.
. . it really was a truck this time wasn't
it?"
She looked at the doctors gathered around
the table and frowned, "What's
going on?" When she looked at the table she gasped,
"Hey! That's me!" The American
looked at herself, then at the girl on the table,
"That's me!"
No one appeared to hear her.
"HELLLLLO!" She waved a hand in front of the head doctor, "I'm right here!"
No response.
She frowned and checked the monitors, "I'm
still alive, so what's going on?"
Some of the doctors were talking now. All work
on her body had stopped and she
followed as they wheeled her into a room and
carefully moved her to the bed. "This is
way too weird for me!"
"ANJA!" Kuronue came barreling in followed by the rest of the team and Shori.
"What is wrong with her?" Shori asked softly.
"She's in a coma ma'am. I presume you are her mother?"
"Yes."
"She suffered a very bad head injury, luckily
she didn't break her neck but her
right leg is fractured and she has a few bruised
ribs. Except for the concussion she
made out fairly well but the head injury. . .
We won't know until she wakes up if she is
going to be ok."
Kuronue stood beside Anja and smoothed out
her hair over the white hospital
pillow. "Anja." He whispered, "I'm here."
Canon flew to her and sat on her chest,
touching her face tenderly the flashed
a few signs at the doctor.
The man looked at the odd creature in amazement. "What is that?"
"Anja's pet." Shori smiled and scratched the Chibiera's ears.
It batted her hands away and flash some more signs.
"How did it learn to sign?"
"Anja taught him." Kurama said softly looking at the little girl in the bed.
"Can you understand him?" Yuusuke asked.
"Yes." The doctor smiled in surprise, "Yes
I can. It asked me when she would
wake up."
"Well."
"I can't tell. It's all up to her now. We've
done all we could."
Anja almost screamed, "I'm right here! I'm
here damn it!" She punched the wall
but her fist went right through. "Wha. . ." She
looked up when Botan entered the room,
"Botan! Oh God I'm not dying am I?"
Botan walked to the bed, "How is she?"
"You too!?" Anja did scream then, "I"M RIGHT HERE!!!!!"
"She's in a coma." Kurama frowned.
"You can't take her!" Kuronue stood between Anja and the angel of death.
"I am not here to take her from you." Botan
shook her head, "I came to inform
you that all of her information has disappeared."
"What do you mean?"
"Yeah." Anja asked, "What do you mean?"
"According to our records, she doesn't exist."
"That's nut's!" Anja yelled.
"That is crazy." Kurama frowned, "Why would she not be in the books. At all?"
Botan shook her head, "I don't know but she isn't there."
Anja shook her head, "Damn this is getting
weird." She sat on the window sill
and kept watch over her body. "This is too weird."
Hiei's quiet entrance would not save awakened
Anja usually but since he
stepped right through her this time, she was
jarred awake.
The little demon tensed and looked around the room and Anja prayed silently.
"Hiei, do you see me?" She asked hopefully.
"Hn, wind." He said and turned to the bed.
"Ningen no baka." He slid a feather light
touch over her face and Anja could have sworn
his hand was shaking, "Don't die." He
said simply.
Anja cried then, "I don't want to Hiei!
I don't want to die! Please look at me! Tell
me you see me!" She reached a hand out to him
but it passed right through. She fell to
her knees, "See me. Please see me."
"Anja?"
Her eyes shot up but Hiei just stood there as before.
"I could have. . ."
"Anja."
She looked around the room slowly, eyes
shifting to each corner. When she
saw a flash of white in one she stepped closer.
"You see me?"
The man nodded, "I see you."
"Who are you?" She asked.
"My name is Marron, Marron Glace." He stepped forward.
Anja gasped, "You're beautiful!"
Marron blushed, on his pale skin it was
like watching a sunrise over the white
sands desert. "Arigato." He smiled at her from
between the sweep of his long hair
which fell and parted over his face.
"How do you see me when no one else can?"
"I am partly responsible for that."
"What did you do?!"
"I had to remove your soul from your body or you wouldn't have lived."
"What are you?"
"A practitioner of defensive magic, a Sorcerer Hunter."
Anja jumped back from him, "Are you hunting me?"
He laughed and shook his head, "You aren't evil."
She nodded and licked her lips, "Then why are you here?"
"For me this is a vision dream, I will wake
up in my own world and time." Marron
smiled.
"Your world?"
"It is different from this one, colder I think." His smile faltered.
"Why did you save me?"
"Why did you save the child?"
"I don't know."
"There is my answer then."
He winked at her and she blinked, "Wha. . ."
"Shh." He smiled, "You need to return now."
"Where?"
"Your body baka." He nodded to where Hiei
stood watch over her sleeping
form. "You are needed here."
She looked back at the pale, beautiful boy, "Will I ever see you again?"
He nodded and smiled, "Our destinies are entwined. We will meet again."
Anja kissed him chastely on the lips, a
kiss like her mother gave her when they
said long good byes, and whispered softly,
"Promise?"
"I promise."
She nodded and looked back at her body, "How do I get back?"
"Come on." He took her hands, "I'll help you."
Anja's eyes snapped open wide and she gasped and sat strait up. "Marron!"
"Anja." Hiei said softly, "Welcome back."
She panted harshly and looked around the room, "Was it a dream?"
"Nani?"
"I thought. . ." She felt something pressed
into her back and pulled out an ancient
book of spells and defenses.
"What is that?"
Anja opened the cover and read, "A gift."
She smiled as she finished the note,
"From a friend."
Inside the book written in glowing letters
were the words ‘happy birthday, little
mother'. Hiei peaked over her shoulder and looked
at it then glanced away, "What
does it say?"
"You can't read?"
He shook his head.
"Can I teach you?" Anja asked.
"Hn?"
"It might come in handy, you never know.
It could be a form of payment, for your
lessons to me on swordplay."
The koorime consented with a Hn and Anja laughed.
Kuronue came rushing in at the sound of her laughter, "Anja! You're ok!"
"Hai Kuro, I'm ok."
He hugged her close then grasped her by
the shoulders, "Don't you ever do
that to me again! Do you know what seeing you
hurt did to me?!"
"I'm sorry Kuro."
"Bakara." He sniffed quietly past his grateful
tears. "God Anja you scared me!"
He buried his face in her bosom.
"Ahem." Kurama cleared his throat from the
doorway and Kuro looked up the
nestled back down, uncaring what they thought.
Canon flew to Anja's shoulder and signed something.
"Hai Canon, I'm ok now. A friend helped me."
"A friend?"
Anja nodded and smiled, "From the future."
Kurama put his hand to her head, "Are you sure you're ok?"
She laughed and nodded, then showed him the book.
"‘Little mother'?" Yuusuke snickered.
"It was my son." She smiled softly, "My son from the future."
Kuronue searched her eyes, "My son?"
She grinned then, "He had golden/blue/brown kaleidoscope eyes."
The fox smiled and hugged her with a sharp
cry and kissed her with all of his
love.
Anja smiled against his lips and kissed him back.
Kuwabara and Yuusuke blushed. Kurama smiled
at Hiei and the Koorime
caressed his Koi's hand softly.
"Anja." Kuronue said in a soft tone when he pulled away.
"Hai?"
"Promise me you'll never leave me."
She hugged him tight and he sat on the side
of the bed, wrapped in her
embrace. Tears filled his bright blue eyes. "Shh."
She hushed him, "It's ok Koibito. It's ok."
"Promise me."
"I can't do that. You know I can't. But
I'll do this, I promise that whatever
happens if one of dies, then we will find each
other again." She tightened her arms
around him, "We're soul mates remember?"
"Hai."
"Um Anja, Kuro, Shori is coming." Yuusuke warned.
Kuronue jumped out of her arms and Anja laid back into the bed with a sigh.
Shori walked into the room and to the bedside,
"Anja! Oh thank God you are
ok! Are you hurting?"
She smiled softly, "Uh Uh, I have a hard head, ne Shuu-chan?"
Kurama laughed, "You have no idea how hard it is Kaasan."
Kuronue grinned and ruffled Anja's hair,
"Heck of a way to spend your birthday,
ne?"
"It's your birthday!" Kurama groaned "I forgot!"
She shook her head, "S'ok. I never really have birthday parties anymore."
"Why not?"
"Well since I turned eleven I haven't really had enough friends to throw a party."
Yuusuke shook his head, "Well you do now!"
Kuwabara nodded, "Oh Yeah! Party at my place!"
"Your place?" Kurama asked.
"She hasn't met my sister yet." Kuwabara reasoned.
"When she has you'll wish she hadn't." Yuusuke warned him.
Anja punched his shoulder and he yelped. "Trouble maker."
The boys laughed and Anja sat up, "There's
just one thing the party has to
have."
Kuronue groaned and the others looked curious. "What?"
"Watermelon!" Anja licked her lips, "I'm hungry!"
They all face vaulted.
