Watching A Race 101
For Parents & Runners
This Saturday will be the first official race of the year and the first
race for many runners and parents on this year’s team. With that in
mind, there are a few rules to watching a race:
1) Do not run alongside any of our runners (or any runners) while watching
the race. This is considered assisting or pacing the runner and the runner
could be disqualified.
2) Be aware of where the race course is and keep off of it. At most races
you are allowed to cross the race course when it is clear, but listen to
the race officials before crossing the course.
3) No loud music can be played while at the race.
4) Be respectful of other teams and meet officials.
The Astro Invite is a true test of our “meet etiquette”.

Well Done Everybody!
Quote Of The Week
The following passage is from cancer survivor and five-time Tour de France
winner Lance Armstrong’s book:
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a
year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its
place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever. That surrender, even the
smallest act of giving up, stays with me. So when I feel like quitting, I
ask myself, which would I rather live with? Facing up to that question,
and finding a way to go on, is the real reward—better than any trophy.
By now you’ve figured out I’m into pain. Why? Because it’s
self-revelatory, that’s why. There is a point in every race when a rider
encounters his real opponent and understands that it’s himself. In my
most painful moments on the bike, I am at my most curious, and I wonder
each and every time how will I respond. Will I discover my innermost
weakness, or will I seek out my innermost strength?
