Super Mario Bros. B-Ball

[Fun64dd]Premise: As you may be able to tell from the title, this is a Mario
Basketball game! If you've ever played Mario Party, I just want you to know
that this game is NOT going to be similar to the Mini-game 'Bombsketball' at
all!!!

Control: The control for this game is going to be very similar to that of
many other basketball games. You control the player on your team with the
ball. The following are the controls for the game if it were on the N64. I'm
not saying it should be. I think it should be on the Gamecube when it comes
out, but I don't know any of the buttons for that, so here are what the
controls would be if it was on the N64:

______________________________________________________________________________

________

These controls apply when you are in possession of the ball and thus are
playing offense:

(A) Pass to teammate. The ball will usually go to the character closest to
you in the direction you're facing. If you try to pass in a direction where
no one is standing, you will turn automatically to the closest person.

(B) Shoot the ball. This command makes your character throw the ball in an
attempt to make a basket. You can shoot from wherever you want, but the ball
has a much better chance to go in if you're closer to the basket, unless you
have a special power-up (I'll explain these later). You can not shoot in your
own basket. You will automatically aim towards the correct basket. Also, if
you attempt to shoot while running very closely to the basket, you may do a
lay-up or slam dunk automatically.

(R) Use an item. If you currently have an item, this button will put the
item's abilities in to effect. Explained later. This can also be used in
Defense.

(L) Taunt. Whoever is currently in your control will taunt the other team.
This is usually pointless but funny in some cases. This command works while
playing Defense too.

(C<) Left C makes you dribble the ball through your legs. Can be used to
avoid getting the ball stolen during break-aways (when your running towards
the basket)

(C>) Hitting the right-C button makes you dribble the ball behind your back.
Can be used in the same way as the command above.

(C-Down) Tap this rapidly to make the ball dribble faster, thus making it
harder for the opponent to steal the ball. Normal dribbling carries out
automatically. This will waste some of your 'Energy Meter' which I will
explain later.

(C-Up) Hold this to charge your 'Energy Meter'. This can also be used while
playing Defense.

(Z) If you press and hold Z, you will run faster. This is very useful, but
wastes a lot of Energy. Can also be used while playing Defense.

L + R makes you switch players if you are in multiplayer mode

These controls apply when you are not in possession of the ball and are
trying to get it. You're playing defense:

(A) Attempt to steal. Press this to try to grab the ball from your opponent.

(B) Block. Use this to jump in the air and try to block a shot made by
someone.

Hitting any of the C buttons except C up (that let's you charge Energy) will
make you do attempt a foul on someone. This is typically not good, but
sometimes a good strategy is to foul.

All of the other controls are the same.

When you start playing in 'Tournament Mode' which I will explain later, you
will be prompted to load a saved team or create a new team. A team consists
of 11 characters that you choose, but you may only play with five at a time.
Build your team to have players with ranging strengths. You don't want
everyone on the team to be huge and great at lay-ups and dunks, but a
horrible free-throw shooter (al a Shaq) or a team with only speedy runners
and no good ball-handlers. Here are the available characters. These are the
guys you have when you start the game.

Mario
Luigi
Yoshi
Peach
Daisy
DK
Dk Junior
Pauline
Wario
Waliugi (from Mario Party 3 and Mario Tennis)
Toad
Poochy (the dog from Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story)
Koopa
Goomba
Parakoopa
Shy Guy
Boo
Birdo

Here are some hidden characters you can receive by doing something special in
Tournament Mode.

Magikoopa-Defeat the Koopa Team in Tournament with a point total of over 100.

Bowser- Complete Tournament Mode

Lakitu- Play 50 VS. Games to receive this player.

Walking Piranha Plant- Have a total point sum for at least 3 players on your
team larger than 20 in any level in tournament mode.

Wart- Complete tournament mode with every avialable character (yes, they have
to PLAY in the game, you can't just have them on your team. You can't just
use one team to do this, you will have to play with at least two different
teams to use everyone. from Super Mario Bros. 2)

Modes:
Here is a description of the various Modes in the game:

Tournament Mode- Select a team and then face 10 different opponent teams in a
head to head game! You can play 2-4 players if you want but they all have to
be on the same team. The opponent teams are these in this order...

Goomba Team
Koopa Team
Boo Team
Shy Guy Team
Parakoopa Team
Happy Team (has Blue Yoshi, Purple Yoshi, two Poochies, and Yellow Yoshi)
Baddie Team (has a Goomba, Koopa, Parakoopa, Shy Guy, and a Boo)
Koopa Kids Team (has all of the Koopa Kids from Super Mario World)
Aerial Team (has a Boo, Parakoopa, Lakitu, Shy guy with a fan on his back,
and a flying Goomba)
Boss Team (has Bowser, King Goomba, Wart, Boshi, and Giant Donkey Kong)

Versus Mode- Play a One-on-one game or single team game. The only mode where
one team controlled by a single person can challenge another team controlled
by a person. Or there can be two players for each team. In one-on-one mode
you choose one player, and either a friend or the computer plays as the
other, in a one-on-one game. You can do a half-court game in 1-on-1, or a
full-court game.

Contest Mode- Play one of the many contests/minigames. Here is a list of the
contests that can be play by 1-4 players. You can have anywhere from 2 to 10
guys competing, and any of them can be controlled by the computer. This is a
seriously fun party mode!

Dunk Contest- Try to do the coolest dunk. Hold B at the start to charge up
your speed, then release and you will start running towards the basket from
the half-court line. Once in the air, tap multiple buttons to do different
tricks. The challenge is that you want to stop hitting buttons before you
collide with the basket or you will be disqualified from the round. Every
dunk gives you a certain amount of points according to how cool it looked. At
the end of 5 tries for each player, the person with the highest score wins!

Three-point contest- Position your character anywhere you want and charge up
a shot meter to determine how hard you throw. The player who makes the most
shots in a minute wins!

Dizzy Shot- While spinning around mindlessly, try to hit B right as your
character is facing the basket. If the ball makes it in you get a point, and
the guy with the most points at the end of 5 rounds wins!

Target Mayhem- In a first-person perspective, try to throw a basketball at
several cardboard targets and knock them down. This is a split-screen mode,
where everyone controls simultaneously.
Press the joystick to look around.
Press B to throw the ball.

There will also be several other hidden mini-games.

Practice Mode- A training mode where you are taught the controls and given
the freedom to run around the court practicing shots and passing and other
moves. This is also a fun mode because you can do pointless things like
running around in the bleachers and trying to shoot from them!

Create-a-Team Mode- Select out of your available characters the 11 that you
would like to have on a basketball team. Then type in (by selecting letters
one by one) the name of your team. It's as easy as that and you have your own
team that you can use in Versus mode or Tournament Mode!

Options- The traditional options menu that's in every game. It has options on
sound and graphics and stuff. The rules options are available when you begin
playing in Versus mode. You can not change the rules in Tournament Mode.

________

Items
Yes, there are items in this game. These are cool items that can be used to
your advantage, or not. If you happen to notice a question block icon appear
over your hoop (this appears randomly) then you know that you've got a chance
at getting an item. While this icon is above the hoop, all you have to do is
sink a basket from anywhere, and the item is yours. If you already have an
item in your possession, the icon won't appear over your hoop because you can
only have one item at a time. Now, once you have an item, you should be able
to see a picture of it at the top of the screen. After hitting a question
block you get a random item. There is no way to choose the items you get.
However, you can not always use your item. Certain items can only be used
while playing offense and certain ones can only be used while playing
defense. Use an item by pressing Z. Here are the items:

Mushroom- Use this in defense or offense mode. Once you use a mushroom, the
character you're controlling will grow huge, making it easier to make shots
or block shots. The effect wears off after someone either scores or loses
possession of the ball.

1-up Mushroom- These are the green mushrooms found in Mario games. In Mario
B-Ball, the 1-up Mushroom can be used in Offense. It stops game play and
gives your current player two free-throws. It's kind of life-saving in this
game just like in the others.

Invincibility Star- Use an invincibility star to become invincible. It makes
it so that the ball will never be able to be stolen. Used in offense mode.
Effect wears off when you score or walk out of bounds.

Fire Flower- Used in offense mode. Lights the ball on fire, making the chance
that you'll score increase, and making a rebound from the other team
impossible. The effect wears off after one shot.

Pendulum- Use this item to hypnotize the referee, making it possible for you
to foul players without them getting to shoot free throws. Unfortunately, it
also lets the other team run out of bounds and other stuff. After using this,
pressing A and B allows you to punch and kick, making it really easy to get
the ball away from the other team. The effect wears off either if the other
team scores or when you get the ball. Used in while playing Defense.

Yoshi Egg- Once you have used the Yoshi Egg, a green-spotted egg will appear
next you and out of it will hatch a Black Yoshi. This little Yoshi runs
around trying to steal the ball from the other team. It moves twice as fast a
normal player, and thus has a greater chance to get the ball. Once the ball
is retrieved by the little guy, it gives it to your player and goes away.
While the yoshi is running around, the opposing team will also cease to move,
noticing the cuteness of the little guy. Used in while playing defense.

Bob-Omb- Using this allows you to throw a Bob-Omb in the direction you're
facing. Once it explodes, it will briefly paralyze the players who we're hit
with the explosion (including members of your team). Also, if someone with
the ball is hit, the ball will go flying in a random direction. Can be used
in Defense or Offense.

Wing Cap- Dawning the Wing Cap will enable your character to fly around the
court by pressing Up C to go up and Down C to go down. This enables you to
escape from players trying to steal the ball, dunk very easily, or guard the
basket with extreme ease. Can be used in offense or defense.

Time Machine- THIS IS THE RAREST ITEM IN THE GAME. IT COMES ABOUT ONCE EVERY
THREE GAMES. The Time Machine allows you to travel back in time a maximum of
two minutes. This is VERY good and should only be used when necessary. Can be
used in offense or defense.

Poisonous Mushroom- If you use this item, a poisonous mushroom will be layed
down next to you and will move around towards people of the opposite team. If
someone's touched by one, they will be injured and forced to be switched off
the team for the rest of the quarter.
