Irvine's Sordid Past:

Irvine's well known in Garden for being the 'consumate lady's man'.  Always a flirt, always looking to talk to a pretty girl, and even better, get to -personally- know her, the cowboy isn't exactly virtuous, and in fact has quite a sexual history under his belt.  After all, someone with a reputation like that has to have had a night or two in bed with a girl.
For the purpose of the MUX character history for Irvine, I've created such a backround for him, and left it as a sidelink to his original history.  It is important in explaining his behavior, but such a touchy subject can upset some people, and thusly if you are insulted by this sort of thing, or just don't want to read it, I highly recommend hitting the back button now.

Irvine lost his virginity at the age of fourteen.  It was actually an accident, and had the circumstances not been right, would never have actually happened.  His instuctor, Emlee, had just been through an upsetting break up with her current beau of three years.  When Irvine came to her door to ask a few questions, he found her quite upset and rather tipsy.  Not in the right state of mind, she invited him in and the two of them together got rip roaring drunk.  Needless to say, one thing lead to another and he awoke in her bed the next morning with a hangover.  Emlee was appalled that she'd allowed it to happen and for about a month the two attempted to pretend it had never occured.  Eventually they gave up on the pretense and the student/teacher relationship took on another level entirely.  Though they had to be exceptionally sneaky and quiet about it, this was where Irvine's initial experience began.  Emlee taught him how to love a woman, how to please her in bed.  For a hormonal adolescent, it was the time of his life.
However, such things can't last forever, and neither did his affair with his instructor. No matter how careful one is, rumors can and often do leak out.  They made one too many mistakes and soon Headmaster Martine called Emlee into his office to 'discuss' the supposed affair.  She denied it, of course, but Martine merely told her:  If it's happening, put a stop to it. Now.  Or you lose your instuctor liscense and the boy leaves Garden.  Nearly a year after their first night together, Emlee took Irvine aside and tried to explain why they had to stop seeing one another.  He took it fairly hard.  It really wasn't that he loved Emlee, the relationship between student and teacher did stick.  He looked up to her, and was far too young to understand what and why she was doing this.
Irvine didn't need to look long before he branched out, however.  After Emlee made it clear their relationship was back to being strictly student and instructor, he wasted little time in chasing after other girls within Garden.  It was so damned easy it became a game to him.  How long would it take and how much charm did he have to turn on to get a girl in bed?  Part of it was done in anger, though he never understood this or would admit it if anyone were to be blunt with him about it.  Emlee had hurt him in a way, and he had begun to take it out on the female populace in general.  At first the loose girls were his targets, at least until he had begun to hone his charm skills and in time he was going for tougher game, the 'good' girls.  In no time he'd built himself up a sizeable reputation for being a heartbreaker.  Indeed, at least half his encounters were merely one night stands.  Others might last anywhere from two nights to a couple months, but he rarely stayed with any single girl for more then that.  Sometimes he balanced two at once, somehow managing to keep them from knowing the other girl existed.
To be honest, the boy was downright cruel half the time.  He only got worse as Martine tried cracking down on him, hating the Headmaster for splitting him from Emlee, and for the fact that the man was generally an ass.  If it wasn't for the sudden orders to assassinate the Sorceress, and the subsequent reunion with the orphange crew, Irvine may have spiralled further downward.  Luckily, rejoining with his old friends brought back a sense of nostalgia, and the mission to kill Edea brought to light new fears and questions.  Then of course, there was Selphie.  At first he persued her as he did any other girl from Galbadia, but when that obviously didn't work, he got frustrated, feeling more then challenged by her.  In the course of trying to understand her, he actually fell in -love- with her.  Needless to say, the cowboy's days of roaming are quite over.  So wrapped up in Selphie, Irvine's nearly forgotten the old urges from the days of Galbadia.
