| Blunt: Bart doesn't mince words much, he could thanks to some of the courtly training Maison and others have tried drilling into his head, but he has discovered that he hates politics with a passion, and so much of it seems so false that he's slowly stripped away such pretenses and prefers to be rather blunt with people when dealing with them. A hammer to the forehead is better because it is seen, rather than a knife in the back. Honesty is the best policy. Charismatic: Bart doesn't just command the Sand Pirates because he is Aveh's true king; he has a natural likeability that makes everyone want to flock to him. When not being his hotheaded and impulsive self, he's quite the friendly individual, and can easily disarm someone's emotional guards, building a natural rapport that lends people to the tendency to rely on him. He makes friends easily, and does manage to keep most friendships once the bonds are formed sheerly for the fact that he's loyal and he can laugh at life with a childlike exuberance that many begin to lose once they reach his age. Somehow, he's retained it and for that reason, he does seem very able to empathize with children much younger than himself. Most of the time, he doesn't even realize he's swaying others to his side, as this is a trait that usually can be found with the majority of Fatimas. Daydreamer: Bart didn't really have anyone to talk to as a child, no one to share his thoughts with who understood him on his own age level. He also spend immense amounts of time underground, at a desk, reading or doing school work on his own. He developed a healthy imagination as his 'friend' of sorts. Often he will lapse into this imagination of his while pondering what ifs or just to wonder what might have been. Often, this leads to him totally missing a conversation, or not hearing someone sneaking up on him. Defender: Basically, Bart has good intentions and a heart of gold, no matter how much of an impulsive idiot he can be. He's prone to gather a righteous indignity when he sees wrongs being committed on those who are good and innocent and when it seems that no one else will stand up for the little guy, well Bart decides that it's his job to do so. When it comes to what needs to be done, Bart has no fear in just doing it. He will take beatings to protect Margie (and has the scars to show his sacrifice, even). He will lead his men against the usurpers against Aveh in the riskiest of raids. He will sacrifice himself and his own needs in order to preserve some semblance of good and rightness in the world. He'd rather go tearing out to face the enemy than remain cowering somewhere in a hiding hole. There may be a lot of people who complain that he's got too much of a tendency to shoot at anything that moves, but there are few, if any, who would describe him as a coward. Joie de Vivre (Joy of Living): There's nothing wrong with being excited. Nothing at all. An exuberant individual, Bart exudes a healthy dose of energy when it comes to whatever task is at hand. Part of this is done to keep morale high amongst the pirates; part of is just him being himself. Bart is far too busy having fun to bother worrying about growing old and being some sort of stuffy nosed adult. Many have come down on him all his life to leave behind his childhood and become a man immediately for the people of Aveh, but all this has really done is made Bart decide to hold onto his youth while he can. He's not really childish, though certainly some people can and do rightly label him as such, but he is childlike. There are many who actually look at youths like Bart and envy them for possessing such outward innocence and upbeat attitude. In a way, Bart -is- still a kid, and rather naive, but not so bad as to make him utterly gullible or stupid. Family Loyalties: Most of the Fatimas were wiped out the night of the usurpation. Those few who survive have Bart's utter loyalty. So far Marguerite and Sigurd are the only ones he knows of, and he would willingly lay down his life for either of them. Margie, his cousin, he feels something akin to how one feels toward an old childhood friend, though there are many who think he's merely hiding his true feelings for her. He's already taken beatings for her, and there isn't anything he wouldn't do for her, if she asked it. Sigurd, on the other hand, is his brother and the one who spirited him out of the palace before being taken away by those who destroyed Aveh's current dynasty. Now that he's reunited with his brother, Bart would do nearly anything to make sure Sigurd is happy and somehow make him proud. Flirt: What, you think -any- teenage boy wouldn't jump at the chance to be a horrid flirt? Well, ok, maybe not, but it seems to run in the family. Harcourt/Fatima genes must just scream 'ladies man!' for every male born into either lineage. Bart's just another example. Having spent plenty of time isolated from most civilizations, he loves turning on the Fatima charm for any lady he comes across that catches his eye. And like his father, he's got quite an eye for beauty. Hotheaded/Impulsive: Unlike his patient and stoic older brother, Bart is hotheaded, reckless, and daring. He has a real tendency to react first and then think about it. This, of course, gets him into plenty of trouble when you get right down to it. It has concerned his caretakers on more than one occasion, some of them wondering what sort of King he will make when restored. See, Bart's easy to goad into a fit. And once angered, it's not easy to bring him back down from his temper. Bar brawls? Ooooooh, he's been in a few of those. *cough* When Bart decides to do something, he -does- it. Counseling him on the virtues of patience and thinking first aren't always, if ever, heeded. He makes decisions rather quickly, and then has to suffer the consequences afterwards. He doesn't always make wrong decisions; it's just the tendency to leap before looking that gets him into hot water. 'Trouble' is, indeed, an apt moniker given to the boy a long time ago by Maison, and though it's said affectionately, there are many who agree on more serious terms. Impatient: Patience is a virtue, Bart's teachers would always counsel. And he'd be the first to retort that he's never been very virtuous. He doesn't like to wait too long for things, and will sometimes take matters into his own hands if too much time passes. He also tends to sulk if made to wait too long. This goes back to rumors of the royal brat he used to be while very young, always throwing a temper tantrum when things didn't go his way. Though he's not that bad now, thanks largely to Maison's discipline, he hasn't ever managed to lose that impatience and desire to have things -right now-. Isolated: Bart never got a chance to grow up with any semblance of a normal childhood. After being spirited away from the palace the night of the usurpation, he was kept amongst those who guarded his life and looked upon him as their next king. 'Young Master' and 'Your Majesty' and 'Your Highness' grew old on him quickly. These years have worn away on him, and have left him with a bitter sense of loneliness. Bart wants very badly to find someone he can relate to, someone who won't look at him as a prince or ruler, but as a man. On the other hand, Bart hasn't really had a chance to socialize much beyond the scope of the Sand Pirates and those who've surrounded him to the point of nearly smothering him with their good intentions. He is easily imprinted upon by new people, who he has an honest curiosity toward, so long as they seem friendly and not hostile. Never having been allowed out much while in Yggridsil, now that he's staying in Balamb with his brother, he is endlessly disappearing into the city just so he can explore and meet new people. Rebellious: Oh yeah, Bart is on the verge of tossing everything aside and doing things the way -he- wants to. Sure, everyone expects him to eventually ascend to the throne and be this great ruler, yadda yadda yadda bark bark bark. Quite frankly, he's sick of hearing it. Finally entering into the rebellious stage of his youth, he's begun to deliberately go against the advice given to him by Maison and others. This fits in directly with the hotheaded trait, and the two, combined, spell a lot of headaches for whoever gets the 'privilege' of keeping an eye on him. Quite frankly, Bart always pushes the boundaries with those who are placed in charge of him, just to see how much he can get away with. People who lay down the law with him will earn his respect rather quickly, whereas those who allow him to walk all over them will get nothing but his contempt. The brat prince is tired of being pampered and fretted over and wants nothing more than to somehow escape the responsibility he was born into. Regal: All Bart's life, he's been groomed for the eventuality that he will regain the throne of Aveh. Though he's grown tired of everyone bowing and scraping to him, save for the Sand Pirates, he does possess a natural regality in the way he holds himself and the posture he takes while in the presence of others he is not comfortable with or doesn't know. The boy reeks of 'royalty' in his stance. He's tried very hard to toss this breeding and grooming out the window, but as much as he truly loves and respects Maison, he hasn't been able to lose most of it. Smartass: Bart has a sharp tongue and a quick wit. Though he rarely has intentions to be cruel to anyone, he just can't quite help himself when the opportunity to remark upon something comes up. Usually this is done in a highly sarcastic manner, using any sort of innuendo or personally historical ammunition he can get his mind on. He's merciless too, especially if someone gets into a verbal sparring match with him. |
