Vanilla Sky

The movie that started the Cruise - Cruz romance. The movie which managed to get a shot of Tom Cruise running through a deserted Times Square almost an unimaginable sight and yet there it is within the very first few minutes. The movie that is built on a really good idea, but also the movie that kind of gets to you in the end.
First up, this movie is long or did it just feel that way? Secondly though the idea itself is pretty good too much is dumped on you right at the very end, and you think, man this should never happen to me.
So it begins with an already problem ridden David Ames whose problems are compounded a million times because of the one fatal moment where he choses to get into a car with a crazed out Cameron Diaz. A distorted face and much depression later you realize with confusion that you can no longer draw the line between dreams and reality and you think that thats whats driving him to the brink.
But it turns out much worse than all that, though there is a moment of relief from it all in the end.
Vanilla Sky puts forth a powerful message about being careful about the way you treat people and the decisions you make. Another powerful message that life is better than dreams which can turn into nightmares and finally another message about how the obvious magic of one night when two people are falling in love doesnt always translate into many magical nights together.
So finally what is it that prevents this movie from being a good watch? Tom Cruises distorted face for one you just keep thinking make this go away, please. Secondly the pace and the crazy things David does makes you think that the guy is just simply crazy.
If I had to put one word for it, Id just say the movie was weird.
