Die Another day

A good movie. But not a good Bond movie. Put simply it destroyed all notions of the kind of secret agent Bond was meant to be by Ian Fleming. In fact the very sight of Bond being captured and tortured for 14 months during the initial title song sequence was nothing less than a disturbing image of the man once thought as the ultimate infallible secret agent.
And Bond works alone. Always has, always should. Despite the presence of a much publisized Oscar winning actress touted as the next best thing to hit Hollywood, I simply fail to understand what Jinx was doing in the movie. Frankly the movie wouldve been as good without her, except of course for the Ursula Andress style walking out of the ocean scene which of course would have been missed. And finally an over emotional Bond seeking out personal revenge and vindication is absolutely absurd for he is one who always had the attitude of this is just my job.
Rosamund Pike is good as the double crossing agent and so is the guy with the diamond studded face nice touch with the gene therapy going all wrong, however the Korean General was not as much of a feared villain as those in earlier Bond movies such as Dr. No etc.
And of course there were several directional errors, absurdities and at times you simply didnt get stuff and are left wondering well how did that happen? Specially the scene in which Bond and Jinx effortlessly cut through the fence, sprint towards the plane and get on with no security personnel around.
All in all I would say a watchable film. The ice palace was pretty good, so was the entire ICRUS concept and the fencing scenes were alright too. But Barbara Broccoli really needs to check with her audiences who may actually tell her that the experimentation was fine but could we please go back to the original Bond now?
