Many have said and continue to say that its the best movie ever made. Citizen Kane is the original poor little rich man story. The original man who has it all and yet has nothing story. And its a good story.

It starts with his death rather than his birth, and travels backwards as a reporter meets several friends and family members of the deceased to try and understand the meaning of Charles Foster Kanes last word Rosebud.

There are two things that stand out in my mind about whats good in this movie. First the buildup of the character. Sent away by his parents to inherit millions, he first took over a newspaper and soon began to truly believe that people would believe whatever he tells them. And therein lay the motivation behind much of what he did.

The second thing is that no one who knew Kane is actually able to figure out what he meant by his last word. Of course it is revealed to the audience in the end, and many would say (as I had) that they had already guessed the same. But the point really was that no one got Charles Foster Kane. Not in his life and not even after his death.

For someone watching in 2003, the movie seems slow, outdated and even the language is difficult to grasp but the story the story is its strength and the legacy of the poor little rich man lives on.
