Places in and around London |

(Madam Tusaud's Wax Museum, Oxford, Greenwich, Windsor Castle, Lords Cricket Stadium) |
Hi All, |
After Scotland, I was in the Scottish hangover for quite a long. I had been to India the next week we came back from Scotland. I went on 3rd Feb and came back on 6th Feb. So had just two days in India. I wanted to go to my town (Mangrulpir), but couldn't make it!! |
The usual routine started back again. I saw the Madam Tusaud Wax Museum. Couldn't see Amitabh, as he was moved to Mumbai for film fare awards. For those who don't know Madam Tusaud, it is a museum of statues of the entire world famous personalities made in wax. It was great. I enjoyed the "Spirit of London ", a ride there. This ride gives us the picture of changing life in London. It takes us back in the past in 17th Century and from there starts our journey and the destiny is year 2000. Its very lively and its fun. I tried to take some photographs even though that was not allowed there. But I doubt how they will come as the light wasn't good there. |

The following weekend we went to oxford. This was a big loss to out pockets and more than that, it was a big disappointment for me. I went to Oxford with lot of expectations that I can see the colleges and can collect some details and what not!! But we were not allowed anywhere in. We could hardly see the corridors and thats all!! |
We took a days bus tour and then found that it wasn't worth as the city is very small and we could have covered it walking easily. Anyway the day was marked bad luck for us.. !! We went to the botanical garden. That was worse than the roadside nursery that we see in India. There was nothing at all. Then we went to have Indian food and ended up eating colored rice, absolutely without any taste and paid 10s for it. Sometimes our patriotism really costs us lot! We were already disappointed and this added to it. It just reminded me the saying, "Not everything that shines is gold!! " True, very true. |
The next weekend we went to Greenwich. Its really lush green as it sounds! It's the place where time starts. The line is a metallic track placed in the concrete bed. I saw it from five feet distance as to stand on it would have cost me 6 s. |
The landscape around it is just too good!! They call it "Greenwich Park ". It is around 70 acres of land, all lawn and hills and beautiful trees. The temperature was around -2 Degrees when we were there. Again wind was blowing so had a killing cold feelings there. |
We went to Greenwich by Dockyard Light Railway (known as DLR). The specialty of this line is that, the trains are automatic and driverless. To seat in the front is a fun. We can see the new constructions and the best of it is the view of "Millennium Dome!! " Its something like out harbor line (From VT to Andheri) in Mumbai. The tracks are always in the air. We were there for a day! Enjoyed a lot. |
This Saturday we went to "Windsor " to see the "Winder Castle ". The name is misleading. Its not at all a castle as it sounds or looks from the outside. It is rather a Palace. It is a palace. Queen Victoria's Palace. It is worth seeing once. Everything there is worth being an International attraction. It has many Indian stuff. |
It has the sword (gold plated and decorated with diamonds), which was presented to some British ruler by a sultan. They have a bullet preserved that killed some British king. And many more silly stuffs to see. There are lots of things, which are brilliant piece of art by Indians. There is a suit of Tipu Sultan, of the time when he lost a war with britishers. The britishers used to collect whatever they could see! I am not sure, but the British king did use Tipu Sultan's suit after altering it!! The poor britishers.. Didn't have clothes and had to play wars for that!! Well, I decided to leave some of my used T-shirts and Jeans for prince in the palace. Hope you all, too send some torn, used clothes as a charity.. :-)))) |
The thing I like there most is the interior decoration in the various rooms. It's amazing work done in Gold and silver. The paintings are fantastic. Also the china clay stuff in the royal crockery collection is worth seeing! We spend a day in Windsor and "Elton ". |
Elton is a town close to Windsor. We just wondered around in the town. Came back to London the same day evening. |
Then on the Sunday We went to see the Lords Stadium. It is more of a futuristic structure! The architecture and the construction is certainly a lesson for our Indian Constructors. They leave no break untested! Also the planning is well anticipated. It has a cricket history Museum. We saw our "prudential cup " (the only victory for India in 1983). |
The stadium just five minutes walks from my flat. The Best part of it is the "Media Centre ", a brilliant piece of naval architecture! Yes, the Capsule that we in Lord's ground is the Media cabin designed and fabricated by two naval architects. It is quite a huge structure and equipped with all support gadgets for the Media People. It looks like the set of the "Star War's " Space ship. The only difference is, this is reality. Lord's People (MCC, Marylbone Cricket Club) Spent around 7 Millions s for it. But its worth it! It is built in aluminum and is around 72 feet above the ground level. We took a tour, so that we can have better information about the ground and also we cannot go in without the tour!! |
That was the end of this weekend!! We are back to work now.. I am waiting for the task and it seems like the project manager has spared this time for me so that I can give my update in the best possible way!! That's all for today and till date!! |
Keep in touch!! |

Warm Regards, |
