Christmas And Peak District
Bad, cold, dull, cloudy and wet weather? That?s it! It all pushed me in to long hibernation. Say, after summer, there's hardly anything that you can do in UK. Again, I was a bit disappointed, as I had to cancel my Paris trip as I failed to get Schengen visa.
Troubles are free in the air! And some air got into my mobile as the SMS flyer. It said ?Fly to Europe for peanuts prices, checkout www.flybmi,com?. Being a born net savvy, I was probably the first to hit the site. Paris, Milan, Venice and Amsterdam; I checked all destinations of my interest. All were there. It was like a treasure opened right before me. And the flyer was true. All tickets were within 50 s. It was a steal!
Would you believe, 2000 people like me, spent two sleepless nights in freezing cold on the street outside the French embassy to get appointment for the visa. Some had some with tents. My friends came over to see me at 12:00 AM in the night and got me a cardboard (carton) to sleep. That was simply inhuman. I was sitting on the streets like a beggar! I tried my level best to get the appointment as I had done all non-returnable bookings. But everything went in vain. I wasted a big money in this venture. Anyway, I am planning my trip again in April. Lets see how it works out...
Then I didn?t do anything in Christmas. Actually, u cannot do anything in Christmas here. All the transport, shops and places are closed and you don?t see anyone on the road in those days. It?s literally frustrating... I took few Hindi movies on rent and kept watching along with my friends who had come over to my place. That was it... New year's eve, again the same thing, it was freezing cold and rains that day. Also, because of the security reasons, the all-major events in London were cancelled. Overall, it was the dullest time of all...
In the last weekend there was big snowfall in London. It is the biggest since 12 years. It was snowing all the day and night long. All the roads, houses and parks were snow covered. I bunked the office in the lunch-hour and had a glimpse of it. It looked wonderful. I have taken quite a few pictures of it. Will show u when we meet.
I had been to Peak District (Buxton - in the north of England) last weekend (11th and 12th Jan 2003). That was fun after a long time. We took a car on rent and went to Nottingham. I have friend (Amar Deo) there. We stayed at his place in the night and went to peak-district in the morning, the following day. It was amazing. Its all hilly region and everything there was again, snow covered! And fortunately, it was good sunshine there. The sky looked wonderful, full of magical colors! It was just fantastic. Too good to say? We kept driving aimlessly in the region. I tried my first time driving in a car park this time. :-). Following day we?d been to Swindon. It is a place near Nottingham and there is an old Church.
On my birthday, we went on long drive in Central London. We started at 10 in the night and kept driving in the city of lights till 2:00 AM. It was good fun again. That made my birthday a perfect day!
Then on Saturday, I had a party at my place. Hem made delicious Paav Bhaji. People had lots n lots of it with wine.
