GW Boy Shrink-A-Thon

Dear reader! What you are about to look over represents only the opinion of one psyc student and a pantheon of demonic rabbits! It was done only in jest to infuriate an evil teacher. Well, originally. Psychology is very subjective and I took but one year of it, I have tried to base my conclusions on reality, but we're talking about a bunch of fifteen year old boys who pilot giant robots now aren't we?

Note: these are only the symptoms I listed for my teacher, others may be applicable. Thanks to Figgy who helped with the diagnosis.

Also note: this won't make a lick of sense if you don't know Episode 0 backwards and forwards.

Heero- Symptoms

· Lack of morality

· Mechanical adherence to orders

· Frequent refusal to do more than grunt in reply, especially to long speeches or wistful words given by others

· Non-concern for the rights and feelings of others

· Lack of emotion or any depth whatsoever

· Social ineptitude- he mentions at one point never haven shaken hands

Diagnosis: In another universe, Heero would obviously be an anti-social, perhaps robing convenience stores. However, in this one, he seems to suffer from combat trauma, and possibly the after affects of Pavlovian conditioning (because he does react to pain, see ep 3) and the simple fact he was a child soldier (he and Trowa both have the classic signs of that).

Solution: Needs group and individual therapy, probably of the more gentle, slow type.

Duo- Symptoms

· EXTREME yellow personality- little guilt (though not wholly absent), good at superficial conversation, energetic, takes even absurdly serious things lightly (at times) sense of humor (a cynical one, but still…), very flashy, has little interest in serious things for the most part, defiant, speaks or acts before thinking, sarcastic and is absurdly sassy.

· Cares mostly about himself or seems to

· Most oddly, calls himself Shinigami (god of death) and has styled his mech appropriately, despite wearing a priest's collar in his spare time.

Diagnosis- Unresolved grief issues, no denial (I know someone said that once...). His current manner of dealing with the deaths of Solo, Sister Helena and Father Maxwell is only rather eccentric. He does not actually have a DELUSION that he is Shinigami. For starters with that, he doesn't believe himself to have any powers one would expect from the God of Death. He simply SAYS that he is because it fits in with his past. It borders on being a game of make-pretend… which could be construed as denial, except he never says he thinks his old friends are still alive in any way, and he does not deny that he is human. It's a very unusual case really.

Solution: Group counseling could do him wonders, or even just spilling his guts to a friend (not Heero).

Trowa- symptoms

· Altruistic to the point of disregarding his own safety

· Passive- despite being adept with a lot of potentially fatal weaponry, he lets his sister push him around and a lot of other people to. Surrenders

a lot when he still has a chance of winning.

· Often appears emotionless

· Dislikes speaking

· Prefers the company of animals

· Distant

· Secretive

· Goes straight off on his own when he's fighting or seems to prefer doing so

Diagnosis- Abandonment issues (as in anyone he get's close to may leave him so don't get close to anyone) and after effects of being a child soldier. The fact he was left alone in the world after his parent's death is embedded in his subconscious. He may not even understand why he prefers to avoid others. (Then again, he might, he never says.) Big question: do I think Trowa was raped? No, I think the mercenaries he was

with didn't know how to handle a kid and perhaps he was never really treated as such. Short version of Hikaru's thesis on this: it is a Japanese show (note Heero and Trowa's views on being soldiers) and the Japanese ideas of being mercenaries or fighters of any sort would not include raping small boys. Consensual sex later on? That I'll buy.

Solution- One-on-one non-Freudian sessions with a psychologist, though I think it may take him a long time to get anywhere. That's OK. That's what psychology is all about (well, and putting electrodes on small animals).

Quatre- Symptoms

· Does not seem to like killing people (He apologizes for crying out loud! Don't get me wrong, I think it's cute.)

· Meticulous

· Friendly

· Wants others to be friendly and get along

· Always tries to talk things out first

· Magnanimous- if you'd just met Duo, would you let him stay at your summer house and eat everything he wanted?

· Obsessive- but the obsession changed periodically

Diagnosis-. Quatre's aversion to conflict seems to reflect an unhappy, turbulent younger years rather than only having the idea of peaceful existence drilled into his head. If that was the case, I don't think he could have had the gumption to run off with Sandrock, something in him had to override what he'd been told his whole life and that was his own heart or subconscious. Just needs help getting over the events of his

childhood and the war. He really just needs a friend.

Wufei- Symptoms

· Obsession with justice

· Preoccupations with power and honor

· Vengeful

· Unfriendly no matter what the circumstance

· Controlling- it's his way or the nearest shuttle to the moon

· Very, very sore looser

· Has unnatural dedication to his mech,

· Has the least respect of all for woman

· Disregard for the rights and feelings of others (especially women)

Diagnosis- Wufei suffers from a Freudian condition called reaction formation. He loves women dearly, but perceives them and his feelings as making him weak, which would then hinder his quest for justice. He is subconsciously doing the opposite of what he wants to. Meiran's death set the whole thing off, of course.

Solution- Freudian conditions can be taken care of with Freudian psycho-analysis. The trouble would be getting him into the office. I'd suggest tranquilizers or a sturdy rope, but have you ever heard this joke: How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb? Answer: One, and the lightbulb has to want to change. Wufei may well be stuck the way he is.

Relena- Symptoms

· Talks to her father's portrait as if he was really there

· Despite the fact Heero is trying to kill her, and even says so, she believes he loves her deeply.

· Obsession

· Stands at the edge of the sea and yells for Heero to come and get her, undaunted by the fact the only people who can see her are the poor beach combers

· Either acts manically, trying to do the work of five people or does nothing but stare sadly at spy photos of Heero

· Got in a car with a creepy old scientist, the minute he said the word "Heero"- now there's disregard for reality

· Believes in ridiculous philosophies that can not work in real life

· Does not realize that Dorothy is also against her

Believes she can actually accomplish things as a figure head.

Diagnosis- This girl, is a delusional schizophrenic, completely removed from reality. In her world, Heero loves her, AP [total pacifism] can work, and the sky may be yellow with purple polka-dots. Note the oneness of her delusion (the hallmark of this disorder) and how nothing can ever seen to convince her that it. Remember that poor woman who thought David letterman was her Husband? It's the same thing.

Solution- Try medication, and if that doesn't work, put her some place safe where it's OK for the sky to be yellow with purple polka-dots. Kind and gentle treatment works best, as always.

Other characters I didn't originally have in the paper:

Zechs- Mad as a hatter. Delusional schizophrenic does have some genetic links. Zechs's delusion appears mainly towards the end of the series: destroy the earth, bring peace to space? The logic is simply non-existent. The stress of the war seems to have brought the condition out in both siblings.

Treize- I can't decide: Non-cleanliness related OCD or a fixation (on noble ideals). I'm just not a Treize expert, though it seems to be every great leader is a little bit crazy.

Dorothy- Also suffers from reaction formation. (From Ep 49- she actually hates war because it has made her family suffer, but to be strong, she has developed an utterly false love of it.)

Hilde- Sanest one in the group, not even a doormat.

Sally- based on her fancy for glancing wistfully at the tied up Heero in EP 3 and some of her later behaviors towards him and Wufei, I'd say she possibly likes little boys. This isn't a disorder of any sort (well, some professionals think it is), but she does not attempt any kind of seduction. Think of her as liking shotacon, or perhaps seeking her younger self in these juvenile fighters.

Catherine- Abandonment issues, like her brother. Her reaction is instead to become clingy.

Noin- Sane, just in love. Though that may merit a special kind of insanity on it's own. What is a normal human mind to begin with?

Wheew! Well, that's it! Feel free to argue with me or ask questions. I hope you at least found this amusing.
