THE HISTORY OF PUNK ROCK and RELATED GENRES
ANARCHO-PUNK
Anarcho-punk (sometimes known as peace-punk) is a subgenre of the punk rock movement consisting of groups and bands promoting anarchist ideas. Many anarcho-punk bands, especially unsigned groups, have taken on what is known as a "DIY" ethic: that is, Doing It Yourself. The anarcho-punk movement also had its own network of Zines which desiminated news, ideas, and Art from the scene. Again, these were usually very much 'DIY' tending to be produced in runs of hundreds rather than thousands (although there were exceptions such as the Zine Toxic Grafity). Anarcho-punk has been highlighted as one of the social phenomena which took anarchism in the direction of 'identity politics' also known as 'lifestylism'. Some say that this style became a key ingredient of the movement. Some argue that the other elements of anarcho-punk made people that were anarcho-punks embrace a wide diversity of approaches to politics in both format and ideas.
