Student, University of North Carolina at Pembroke, 2002 This relationship started in 1492, in the moment that Cristobal Colon put his feet in a virgin land, in a place where nobody were before, in a New World for the european society. The Catholic Kings of Castilla finally acepted to financial the exploration travel of Colon to the Indies; after a long travel lost in the sea the three spanish boats (la Pinta, la Nina, la Santa Maria) found the Americas, the best discovered of the Spanish history and occidental culture. But the important point is the situation of Spain in that moment and the new door that was open for the spanish people. The period also brought change and expansion, Sevilla started to grow up like the most important city in the New World market and was the main point of the Atlantic economy. The economy like the commerce started to expande, making the industry and the agriculture healthier than before (to make America; A New World in the Old, 30-31). Anyway the social situation was not perfect in Spain, so some people decided to emigrate to the New World; the applications for a royal licence had to be presented at the Council of the Indies in Madrid (during the years 1601-1606, the court was in Valladolid) accompanied by a declaration in wich the person explained his reasons for travel away of Spain (to make America, legal procedures, 61). This was a really important business, even the King Philip III wanted to be consulted personally on every application. The Casa de la Contratacion de las Indias (founded in 1503) controled the commerce between Spain and the Indies-Americas. Spain came a healthy country, importing since gold to
potatos; with the pass of the years the Royal family was taking money but...
how spaniards says " we don't need money, just wine..." and all the dream
started to go down. The kings started to spend money in expensives gifts
and travels and all was gone.
