Neighbors

Disclaimer: Paramount owns them; I'm just playing with them.

This is kind of an episode addition for "Someone to Watch Over Me," based on what is probably one of the funniest lines I've heard on Voyager ever.

"Lieutenant Torres and Ensign Paris, report to my ready room immediately." Captain Kathryn Janeway closed the comm channel.

"So I'm guessing you agree that something needs to be done," Commander Chakotay said from the other end of the couch.

"Oh, absolutely. We can't have something like this going on, especially from senior officers. Something definitely needs to be done."

"All right, what did you do now, Tom?" B'Elanna Torres asked accusingly.

"I didn't do anything!" Tom Paris protested.

"Then why are we being ordered to her ready room? I know I didn't do anything."

"I have no idea." The turbolift doors opened; in unison they took a deep breath and crossed the bridge. Tom rang the chime on the ready room door, and they waited to enter with baited breath.

The ready room door signal rang. "Well, here they are now," Kathryn said. "Come," she called loudly, and the doors opened to admit Voyager's most well-known couple, looking very nervous.

"You wanted to see us, Captain?" B'Elanna asked, keeping her voice surprisingly steady.

"Yes," Kathryn answered. She decided to get right to the point. "Commander Chakotay and I have each have several complaints from crewmembers with quarters on Deck 9, Section 12. Seems there's some rather loud noise coming from Lieutenant Torres' quarters that's disturbing their sleep. Any comments?"

"Um..." they looked at each other, not sure what to say. "No, captain."

"Good," she answered. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to make an attempt to keep it down. I have nothing against the two of you pursuing a relationship in your off-duty hours, but when you're disturbing your neighbors' rest, something needs to change. Understood?"

"Understood," they answered.

"Dismissed," she said. They turned around and hurried out as fast as they could.

Once they were gone, Kathryn turned to her first officer. "Makes me glad I insisted on having both my quarters and my ready room soundproofed when Voyager was being built," she said.

"Thank goodness for 20/20 foresight," Chakotay answered. "Otherwise everyone would know about our intimate relations like they do about theirs."

"Well, let's have some of those intimate relations now, why don't we."

"Aye, captain."
