What About You?
Setting: As all of you should know, Goku came down with a heart condition during the fights with the androids in the television series. The androids wanted to destroy Goku, Chi Chi was constantly sitting by Goku just waiting for him to get better, and Goku ended up sacrificing himself for the sake of the planet. But, what they never explain is that during all of the craziness how Goten was conceived.
Warnings: Some say it’s really sad. Slight citrus. And besides this, it’s the usual warnings for my stories.
Now the story…
And so, Chi Chi sat at the end of their bed with a depressed look and a slight sign of tears in her eyes. She lay there nearly motionless watching her husband sleep. And her heart would jump every time he stirred.
In the beginning, Chi Chi was almost happy Goku was stuck at home, with her to watch after him. But, now reality was really taking its toll. She never thought it could be so painful to have her husband at home sick. The medicine Trunks had brought from the future was supposed to be working any day now.
It was hard for her to admit that she missed him running around training and eating constantly. She would rather him be doing that than looking like he might stop breathing any second.
She went downstairs and started to wash the dishes from Gohan’s visit the day before. She also prepared another dose of medicine for Goku. The medicine was supposed to have shown signs of recovery over a day ago. She thought to herself.
As she was walking back upstairs she heard a small noise. She suddenly tensed, thinking that it might be the androids. But what she saw definitely surprised her. And she silently gasped.
There he was, standing there looking out the window almost as if in a trance, in his usual light blue boxers and large dark blue shirt. He knew she was looking at him, but he didn’t turn to her yet.
"Are you feeling better?" Chi Chi asked in a shaky voice.
Goku only nodded. He glanced at his fighting clothes in the corner, but then back out the window. She also looked at Goku’s fighting clothes.
"I’m not going to let you leave yet Goku, you're still sick," Chi Chi reminded him.
Goku gave a long sigh, and then finally turned to her. "I'm sorry," Goku said.
"For what?" Chi Chi asked, surprised.
"For everything," he said.
Chi Chi just stood trying to think of what he meant.
"You were there with me the very day I was sick, and you haven’t ever left my side," Goku said. "I always knew that you know I loved you, but I never did as much as you, to show that," Goku said facing the window again.
"I just wish you were home more," Chi Chi commented.
"Me too," Goku said sadly. He walked over to the bed again and sat with his head hidden between his knees looking down at nothing.
Chi Chi walked over wanting to comfort her sad husband. She sat next to him and put her head on his shoulders.
"It’s not fair if you comfort me, I’m the one who should be comforting you," Goku whispered.
"And what can you do about it?" Chi Chi said, trying to make him laugh.
He smiled. "I want you to know I love you," Goku admitted.
"I’ve known that since the day we were married Goku," Chi Chi said reassuringly.
"I know that, but I didn’t give you as much proof as I wish I had. And if there isn’t a tomorrow… for me…" Goku said, nudging her forehead with his nose. "I just want to make sure that our love will survive forever." Goku then cut off his own sentence, kissing his wife instead of talking. He knew kissing her could say more than he could ever explain with words.
Chi Chi was remembering about once a long time ago when she was a teenager and heard the song called: "It’s In His Kiss." She remembered the main lyrics in her head. If you really want to know if he loves you so it’s in his kiss, she thought. She almost giggled at herself. Well if his kiss is what says it all, he definitely loves me, Chi Chi said in her head.
He out of nowhere collapsed backwards to a flat position non-purposely taking Chi Chi down with him. He got under the covers just as before.
When Chi Chi saw this, she thought that Goku must’ve still been really tired. But to her amazement, he used his boyish voice to coax her teasingly.
"Are you tired?" he asked innocently.
"Hmm, gee I suppose." She cocked an eyebrow.
"Then would you care to… sleep with me?" he asked, slightly blushing.
She remembered that when Gohan was born, she still had to remind him that the term: sleeping together was slang for the word sex. She also had to re-explain every night after that if they were going to just sleep together or really sleep together. She smiled but wanted to play around a bit. "Now why would you want to sleep with me?" she asked sarcastically.
"Because you’re so pretty," Goku said with a smirk.
She smiled mischievously back and said yes almost to softly to hear.
But Goku took the event seriously in his mind. He never let go of her once. He snuggled his face into her hair and took in her scent. The smell of her skin tensed his mind. It hurt to think off all he’d worried her. He brushed his lips over her neck with his hot breath as he exhaled a long sigh. "I don’t want to leave you alone Chi Chi," he whispered.
"You’ll never leave me Goku, you baka. You're always going to be right here with me if you like it or not." She weakly laughed, poking his nose.
He smiled. Chi Chi was right, no matter how much they fought, they were inseparable. He buried himself lightly, gently into her as he always did.
Her tiny hands, so fragile, groped his back in comfort. She was fragile, if she admitted it or not.
Strong spirited, but so weak in his arms, both of them were. She was like an egg, he could accidentally shatter her so easily, but he never did. It made him wonder why.
She cupped her hands around his lower back and pulled him down further into her with all her weak strength that she could.
He watched her eyes. He knew no matter how careful he was, his strength was always a little overwhelming for her. He seemed fascinated that she could overcome it with little effort and still have energy left in the end. She then looked into his examining eyes. He blinked curiously.
"Goku. I know you're leaving tomorrow," she said softly up to him, eyes emotionless.
He felt his eyes grow weak.
"You have to promise me we’ll do this again," she whispered.
He answered with an all out kiss onto her lips. His eyes closed as if in pain.
She didn’t know if that was a yes or no comment. He just looked so damn unhappy in his eyes that she wanted to cry. No! I’m not going to cry, not here, not now. This isn’t the moment to be sad, she reminded herself. She captured his face in her hands. "We will," She whispered, pulling him down for her kiss as her answer.
So as he lay there in bed with his face on her neck he promised himself that he wouldn’t let anything ever threaten her life. He realized that one of the reasons he always got back up during fights was because of her and Gohan. He had always unconsciously fought for their protection.
He woke up at sunrise and looked at her for awhile while she slept. He kissed her to wake up, and said he was going to leave without needing words. This time he walked over to his fighting outfit and put it on. He looked from the window and then back to Chi Chi a few times.
There was an erie darkness in his coal black eyes. Is it fear? she wondered as she searched through the depths of blackness. The black reflected with the sunlight, giving glimpses of what was going through his mind.
His eyes were determined, confident… but not self assured.
She saw the doubt in his eyes.
"I promise I won’t let anything happen to you Chi Chi, and I won't let anything happen to Gohan either. I promise," he said as his voice echoed through out the room as he teleported out.
"What about you Goku? What about you?" Chi Chi said looking out window in the trance of the sky.
