Stra. Radotic Español 3/4
Descripción de calificaciones (Grade Description)
Spanish
3-4 is a second-year course in Spanish language and related cultures. In this course, you will work toward
intermediate oral communication skills.
You will also advance your Spanish reading and writing abilities. In addition, your knowledge of Latino,
Chicano, and Spanish cultures will greatly expand. Class will be conducted
almost entirely in Spanish.
Grades will be broken down
into the following categories:
15% Actividades diarias
--- Daily review activities are completed in the
first 5 minutes of every class period. If you are late or absent for any
reason, you miss out on that day’s ‘actividad diaria.’ One to four misses
per semester will not negatively affect your grade; however, frequent
late-starts or lack of preparedness will bring your grade down because you will
not have sufficient time to complete the activity. Actividades diarias will
be collected every Friday and graded for effort (meaning they are complete and
errors have been corrected in class) in an all-or-nothing style.
15% Tarea
--- You
will be assigned a writing or study homework activity every day, including
block days and weekends. I will always check homework completion and
accuracy at the very start of class; and I will reserve time to go over and
answer homework questions as necessary. You are welcome to come into my
classroom during breaks, lunches or after school (if the door in unlocked) for
homework help. I understand that many of you have other time commitments;
therefore, each homework activity will require no more than 40 minutes of your
time (and oftentimes only 20-30 minutes).
35% Proyectos y actividades
--- This grade portion includes large projects such as
group performances, interview dialogues, PowerPoint and video presentations,
and all in-class tasks (written and/or oral). It is important to realize
that not only are handed-in assignments graded; but I will monitor and grade
effort in paired practices, oral presentations, and many other class tasks.
Because we acquire language through communication and interpersonal practice, I
highly-value projects and activities and grade them equivalently to tests and
quizzes (see below).
35% Pruebas, examenes y cuadernos
--- Binder
checks and weekly quizzes are meant to help both the student and the teacher to
see language strengths and areas for improvement. In short, I quiz you to see
how and where I can give more help in every Spanish unit, and not just to make you stress out every Friday. Quizzes
and binder checks make up a significant part of this grading portion. However,
unit tests, in-class essays, and final exams are the most valuable components
of this category. They will require class participation, assignment
completion, and out-of-class studying.
Grades on
Assignments/Tests/etc.: A = 90-100% B = 80-89% C = 70-79 %
D = 60-69 % F = 40-59 %
