Williams Communications - Bourbonnais, Illinois, USA
A 2007 Dodge Charger Police Package Install
Williams Communications is located in Bourbonnais, Il. and performs work at customer locations in the north and north central Illinois areas. The company is owned by Brian Williams, a  26 year veteran in the communications and public safety vehicle fields. Brian first worked at Kankakee Communications while still in high school and then went on to work for Central States Communications. After 11 years, in 1991 he started a communications contracting business and contracted installation labor and service work to Motorola shops in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesotta. During those years, he made a great many contacts and friends and has maintained many of those relationships to this day. Brian's work speaks for itself. It is neat, solid and trouble free. He guarantees his labor for a year after the install and will fix any problem due to an installation mistake that crops up during that time at no charge. For a quote, call Brian Williams at

The police package wiring is found under a panel under the power outlet. In the 12 pin plug I used the power sources, and 2 pairs going under the hood for the horn and siren speaker. In the large plug I used the wires for the flashing brake and headlamps only, using a 47k resistor and relays to seperate them from the rest of the equipment so they wouldn't come on by themselves as they have been known to do. I made my own horn circuit as the factory one doesn't work properly yet. I left the panel off as the console covered the wiring. I used a small Radio Shack circuit board for the resistors. It is taped over.

Most police car removals take between 3 and 4 hours. Installations can take up to 24 hours but most are around 18. Brian doesn't rush to complete a job as experience has taught him that haste does indeed make waste.
Brian's work vehicle is a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid which usually gets around 28 - 30 mpg loaded with installation and service equipment. It has gone 44000 miles so far with no problems.
The trunk has a 15" x 24" 3/4" plywood board mounted with 1/4" nuts and bolts to the upper back seat support and to a bracket mounted to a factory stud in the floor. There is the Spectra radio, the power amp for the MW520, Smart Siren, and a charge guard timer for the computer system. The wires are neatly folded and held in place with tie wraps screwed to the board. I usually paint these but didn't on this one and it looks fine.

I brought the wiring that was coiled up in the lower part of the grille up to the top and cut and spliced one pair into the horn circuit for use in the horn siren circuit. Soldered and taped, wont be corroding here.
There is a good speaker bracket available for the Charger that places the siren speaker in the center of the grille. I used a 12" extension on my drill to put the self drilling screws in. The wires here are also soldered and taped.
The rear of the console had to be drilled to fit. While the bracket supplied by Lund worked with the spacing of 2 existing screw holes in the floor, andother 2 had to be drilled in for stability. The upper part of the bracket didn't line up with the slots in the Lund plate so it again had to be drilled with a 3/8" bit to enable the use of the large bolts holding the plate to the floor bracket and the armrest to both the plate and the floor bracket. A good shot here of the custom aluminum u bracket for the Maxtrac and of the Spectra radio speaker. The PA mic is mounted to the rear of the Maxtrac bracket.
The battery and main fuse box are located under the floor in the trunk. I made my connections to the post on the fuse box and on a factory ground stud. The maxi fuse holder is for the Smart Siren light circuit. In this car its 50 amps. The wires are run along the factory wiring and a corner in the front of the floor cover was cut out to allow access to the wires. The floor cover was also cut around the bracket holding the plywood. It will still slide out if needed. The ground wire to the battery negative is only temporary for a test.
