Zone Alarm - Firewall
The main advantage of Zonealarm is that it tells you which programs want to access the internet. So if a trojan is installed on your PC without your knowledge, you can see it when it trys to dial out. If you have XP firewall, Download Zonealarm woth XP Firewall on, then close Internet Connections, stop the XP Firewall, install Zonealarm and reboot.

Advice- When installing Critical Updates and Services Packs from Microsoft, Download them first, then disconnect your PC from the internet, disable your AV software and then install the updates. Some AV software can interfere with the installation of the updates. Re-enable AV and then connect back to the net.
Also, if you can't run Windows Update and have Zone Alarm installed, you need to adjust the ZA settings.
