On the Trail

Update!

7/4/2001: I have added the Fantastic Four Personality Indicator to the exams! Fill out this questionnaire to find out which member of the FF your personality most resembles!

7/1/2001: Okay, I'm still in the process of transferring everything from the old location. You should note that I am "updating" the look of everything in the process. Here's a rundown of things that will be added very soon:

Reed's section: "Right as Reed" will be redesigned and added first. Noah Baxter's page and Alyssa Moy's page probably won't be added for a while.

Sue's section: I am going to open the pages for Franklin and Valeria at about the time they return to current continuity. Agatha's page will be along in the not too distant future.

Thing's section: Alicia's page will open soon, partly to commemorate her reemergence into the FF in #45! She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel's pages are low priority at the moment.

Torch's section: The Torch vs. Thing section is my top priority. Crystal and Lyja have to wait a while. I will try to get Nita's page up sooner.

Thanks for visiting and check back soon!

Welcome to the Fantastic Four Adventure Trail

I am proud to introduce The Fantastic Four Adventure Trail, version 3!

The Fantastic 4 Adventure Trail is based on one simple philosophy: that comic books, although they are great entertainment as well as high art, are very often "campy." The Fantastic Four has been my favorite book since I started collecting comics. As a science-fantasy book, the FF tends to be at the top of the camp heap simply through the virtue of too many comic book writers trying to be scientists. (Do I have to tell you that anyone with true scientific knowledge probably wouldnt be writing comic books for a living?)

In March 1997, I created the first version of the Fantastic Four Adventure Trail. On October 25, 1997, I stood up the Fantastic Four Adventure Trail v.2 (after the original was accidentally deleted by Geocities, your once and future home on the web). This third version comes as my previous free  web space provider was sold and stopped offering free web space.  My goal with the Adventure Trail is twofold: to demonstrate my fondness for the FF and to give you a good chuckle.

Who Am I to Make You Laugh?

Mickey Joins the FF! I? I am a journalist by profession, which should mean one thing to you. I can write! (Okay, okay, would you believe: I can spell!)

Beyond that, Ive been reading comic books for several decades. Although I really have no time for anything, Ive tried to keep myself active in comic book fandom for a while now. When I was a net.frosh, I was actively involved in the newsgroup rec.arts.comics hierarchy. There, I made a general nuisance of myself. I was useful enough to run the Squiddies in 1991 and draft a Doctor Doom FAQ.

Why the Adventure Trail?

As I first sat at the computer with this idea in mind, I conceived of a tremendous Fantastic Four encyclopedia, the likes of which would contain a wealth of information so impressive that the folks at the Distinguished Competition would bow before the superiority of their Marvel brethren and run the banner "The Fantastic Four *is* the World's Greatest Comic Magazine" on every issue of Superman.

However, I quickly discovered Alan Earhart and Sean Kleefeld had already established individual sites that fulfill that need admirably. (Check out their sites from my links!) Hence, I developed the new philosophy stated above.
