Corruption

In my view, government corruption is less a problem based on money, but a problem stemming from the supposed importance of becoming reelected. Many politiciancs make policies targeting specific groups needed for reelection. Many also engage in dishonest activities, such as Nixon's watergate, to attempt reelection. This, in my view is far more of a threat to having an impartial government working hard for the good of the people than bribery. It would be safe to say that the vast majority of politicians are abitious, some to the extreme. I would also say that most would not accept bribes or other forms of corruption, either because they are truly idealistic and virtuous people, or simply because they understand the consequences of such actions. It follows, then, that ambition probably combined with some will to do good, not money, is the chief motivation for holding public office. Ambitious men seek honor, and reelection is a good way to gain this honor. Thus, many politicians will spend much of the end of their term planning reelection and making policies targeting certain segments of the populous. They will also do their best not to hurt anyones feelings, as they wish to be reelected, even if the hurting of the feelings in question would be for the good of the owner of the hurt feelings or the welfare of a large demographic of the populous. Thus, much policy is made or not made for the good of the general populous, but for the reelection of the politician. THIS is corruption. Bribery, espionage, sabotage; these are all corruption as well, but ambition leading to simply trying to appease the most people, despite the fact that it may be bad policy, is true corruption, and makes sabotage and bribery seem merely tools.
