“You don’t realize it now, but you’ll be getting older soon.”

”Why wouldn’t I realize that now?”

“Well, I’m just saying. You might not realize it.”

“Are you saying I’m too stupid to comprehend the aging process? How fucking old do you think I am?”

“I’m just saying. It’ll happen faster than you think. It sneaks up on you. Like a train or something.”

“Trains are loud. They don’t sneak up on you.”

“Yeah, but they’re fast. So you wouldn’t see them coming.”

”But the engines are loud! And the conductor can blow that whistle thing if you’re in the way.”

“But you might not be in the way. You might be off to the side.”

”Well then who cares if the train just goes right by you?”

“Well what if you wanted to get on the train?”

”Then I think you’d probably want to go to the train station. Trains don’t just pick up people off the streets.”

“Well neither does the aging process!”

“Thanks. Thanks for that sound advice.”

”I don’t know if I need your sarcasm right now.”

“Well hurry up and make a decision.”

“If it’s so important to you, why don’t you make the decision. Time to start facing responsibility. That’s something that goes along with growing up.”

“Okay, fine. I decide that you do, in fact, need my sarcasm right now.”

“Wrong decision.”

”You told me to make it!”

“I didn’t tell you to make that particular decision, though, did I?”

”You told me to make a decision, so I made it. Then you said you didn’t like that decision. Well there’s only one other decision for me to have made, so why didn’t you just make the decision in the first place?”

“It was the principle of the thing. I wanted you to learn responsibility.”

”You don’t need to teach me anything. That’s just ridiculous.”

“Is it? Or is it the greatest thing someone can do for someone else?”

”Is this another decision you want me to make?”

”Only if it’s the right decision.”

”I doubt it will be. I’m standing firm in saying that it’s ridiculous.”

”You’re right.”

”About it being ridiculous or about doubting it will be the ‘right decision’?”

“Which do you think?”

”I’m not going to play these games anymore.”

“Why not?”

“Shit, the train’s coming. I have to go.”

“Don’t let it sneak up on you like old age.”
