Some poems rhyme
Which, to me, the message they send
Is a contrived feeling of pacing and time
That I hopelessly hope would just end
Some poems have strange
Breaks in the middle
Of Sentences
Where you try to find double
Meanings
Or you wonder if
There
Is emphasis on certain words
Or else why
Would
They stand alone on a line?
Some poems,
Though I wont cite any examples
Function in a realm;
Outside of grammar
And
...syntax:
Some are about love
Which is nice enough
So, to return the favor
Ill staple these poems to the pre-nups
And read them at your divorce hearings
Some poems are about death.
Remember Thanatopsis?
Death, Bryant claims, is the great equalizer
So why do I know his name
And not some peasants
Some are about life,
Written in Ivory walls
And some are about youth
Penned by ancient, withered men
And I love a nice poem about survival
Authored by someone long dead
Some poems are about Hatred!
Imagine that
Wasting words on someone you dont even like
Some deal with abandonment
The pen is so much more hospitable
Anyway
And some deal with the ideal of true freedom
Written through shackles and chains
Some muddle in the affairs of others
Some are way too personal
Some seem entirely fictitious
Others, you wish were
But if I had to pick a favorite genre
A theme that prevails within me
It would be the poems that
Convey the way the world works
By simply
Simply existing
(And there would be an emdash towards the end.)
