It's been a while since I've laughed so hard an e-mail. The service opportunities are ones that the society as a group chooses, which in fact you would help choose if you were to join. The projects are not performed for me. The money goes to support the national infrastructure and pay for local expenses - like food at our meetings. Again, not to me. I'm on staff with Arizona State University, in the Center for Solid State Science. I volunteer as the GBP advisor. Gamma Bata Phi is a group of young, bright people who are looking beyond themselves, committed to contributing something back to society. Come to one of the information meetings if you want to know where to sign up. Or, I could have one of the elected officers contact you, if those times don't work for your schedule.
Am I being obtuse? Maybe I'm being obtuse. I tend to be obtuse at times. When I said, "you," I didn't mean you, personally, Jon Mull. I was intending only to assign a pronoun to the society to which you belong (and a fine society it is, I'm sure). However, our language doesn't have a pluralized form of the second person pronoun (Whereas Spanish, for example, has "vosotros"). Also, I really enjoy the alliteration in the name "Center for Solid State Science." Do you guys, by chance, sell sea shells by the sea shore with Sally in your spare time? Maybe I'll check our your little club next Wednesday. Are you going to be in attendence? Come introduce yourself. I'll wear something bright. Darin. |
