you, who must be braver than i

you, who must be braver than i
incredible that we meet here
like this, you, whose heart ive broken
over and over again
it is my own, it is my own.
now we make love to each others potential
because we are so strong,
and you, of course, are brave
long lines of restraint to keep us driven we are driving
ploughing through so much commercial dust
covered with all the magic we can manage to muster
(incantations that have lost their luster)
this is my incantation, i lay a spell on you:
valentines shredded by cats claws
angry hags gnawing on crows like bones
open wombs teeming with bright silver fishes
ill eat your bones for soup!

do you understand now? could you understand
how long its been, more than one lifetime to reach you,
and we shall die
it will be timely
my death will be on time
out of time with yours
given everything thats fair, whats fair?
i must miss you.

you are only my heart shifting spaces
one new hole, one new wall, i am not as brave

never as brave
when i hooked a fish and let him drown
this is how i felt -
ive somehow let you down
so you are nothing or only a flash
in another body, a traveller.

this tediousness of thought upends me.
i am always so quick to escape modern traps
and live as though obverse or oblong
now that i must hunt my food i am lost and waiting
to be proven wrong by my prey so that i too
am nothing like you

theres no obviousness in your eyes so i had to dream it
and then build a house of christmas cards to house it
and hide it all beneath a blanket
a great intense wave came and took it
and now in your eyes im alone

there is no one here to complain to
i am plain to you; it is fair.
