What does the future hold for
Calvin and Hobbes? That's a tricky question.
Either Watterson comes back in some form, or he doesn't. After
five years of being forced to read old comics in the books or on the
Internet, people are most likely thinking our beloved duo will never
come back. E-BOOK or another tech allowing Watterson to
publish by himself: 35 to 1 For
those of who were subscribed to my New Calvin Times
newsletter (that had 3 issues in the one year it was in a
semi-existence) might remember how I figured that perhaps with the
technology of the e-book, Bill Watterson might return and write
comics by himself and wirelessly submit them to his readers directly
through a simple subscription. NEW BOOK: 15 to 1
On the other hand, others have pointed out the
possibility of a treasury coming out with new or even old
strips. While in 1996, 1997, and maybe 1998, this was indeed
quite a major possibility; this seems less and less likely. Of
course this may still happen, but as the years go by, (as well at
the fifteenth anniversary, a perfect time to release a new book) I
do not even think of that as a possibility. TV
SERIES/MOVIE/RETURN TO THE NESPAPERS: Infinity to 1
Then, comes one of the remotest possibilities,
him returning to the comic strips in the newspaper, very
unlikely. Unless Watterson suddenly decides to live with the
syndicates and people trying to license his work, he's not going to
be coming back to the newspapers. I really admire Bill
Watterson for his integrity and his forceful stands on keeping the
comic strip as it is. I really do think that a C&H
motion picture or a TV series would destroy the work. Thank
you, Mr. Watterson for keeping your work as it is. NOTHING IN
THE NEAR FUTURE: Even This is the
likelist, and I think that that's all I have to say.
DISCLAMER: The above article is what I think, not what Mr.
Watterson thinks. |
