| National Lions Club International, 1.4 million members in 40,000 local clubs of 180 countries, has the official motto "We Serve" which sums up our mission: "To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation". Each club is involved with projects that directly benefit the community; local, state, national, or international. Our current international service comitment Sight First: Lions Conquering Blindness aims to eliminate preventable and reversible blindess around the world. To date: *77 clinics or hospitals have been built or expanded *3 million cataract surgeries performed *4 million people treated with vermectin annually *over 2900 ophthalmic professionals trained We sponsor the Leader Dog Program in Rochester, MN training dogs and sight impaired individuals to live more independently and actively. Other projects involve special emergency relief and speech/hearing impairment aid. |
