| Local The Radord Host Lions Club, started in 1941 by a group of concerned citizens, has grown to become one of the largest clubs in the district. Local projects include: *Eye exams and glasses for Radford *Direct support, in cooperation with the RU Speech and Hearing Clinic, for people needing hearing aids *Scholarships for Boy's and Girl's State *City School Projects such as the band, athletic association, safety patrol, and choir. *City Recreation Department programs *Donations to state and national Lions programs: Leader Dog, the Lions Sight Foundation, and Old Dominion Eye Bank *Research on cochlear implants and inner ear hair cell regeneration is supported through the Virginia Lions Hearing Foundation. In 1998 we purchased a building on East Main Street to create the Lions Community Building that houses the Radford Fairlawn Daily Bread soup kitchen. The building is also available for other functions and activities by city residents. |
