Message from District Governor Jones Wong

Dear Fellow Rotaractors,

Big congratulations to your club at the Sixth Annual General Meeting on the 27th of July. It is the 6th Birthday of your club, you have grown fast and gained a lot of achievements. However, there are plenty of opportunities for young people to work together in a world fellowship dedicated to service and international understand. Among its goals are: the recognition and development of constructive leadership and personal integrity; the encouragement and practice of thoughtfulness and helpfulness to others; the recognition of the dignity and value of all useful occupations, and the development of knowledge and understanding of community, national, and world affairs.

"Lend a Hand", RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe chooses it as the Rotary Theme of the Rotary Year 2003-04. Please join us all the Rotarians to Lend a Hand to alleviate abject poverty, Lend a Hand to educate the illiterate, Lend a Hand of fellowship to all the Family of Rotary.

Message from President Jacky Sung of Rotary Club of Tai Po

Dear Rotaractor of Rotaract Club of Tai Po,

I am honored to be invited to your Annual General Meeting, a celebration which marks the sixth year of your establishment.  Over the past six years, our home city has encountered a number of severe challenges compared to nothing before.  The most recent combat was the SARS.  Yet we were not smitten.  In the combat, we demonstrated the great power of Hong Kong spirit and a high level of humanity to the world.

Hong Kong is often looked upon as a great monolithic landmass evolving to be a mature knowledge based economy.  Our most significant edge over many other international cities in the world is rooted upon the innovation, dedication, entrepreneurship and professionalism of the seven million people in Hong Kong.  Rotaract Club is known for its tradition of fostering leadership and responsible citizenship, encouraging high ethical standards in business and promotes international understanding and peace.  I congratulate all of you, as youths, who have determined to play a key role to strive for the betterment of our society in many decades to come.

I believe there is still hope in Hong Kong, because we have got a new generation like you.  I wish you all a very successful Rotaract year 2003-2004.

Yours in Rotary,

Jacky Sung

Message from Immediate Past President Henry Pang

Dear Rotarian, Honorable Guests and Rotaractors,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Mother Club for their support this past year, without which a lot of things would be impossible.  A special thank you goes to our advisor Rotarian Donald, who has been extremely supportive of our club.  We look forward to his continued support next year!

2002-2003 was a memorable year for me.  I wish to thank all my board members for their hard work and commitment to our club.  My goal to expand our commitment in Community Service set last year during my inaugural speech, would not have been achieved without their support.

With the help of Ken, the first community project was set up to help children from fractured families at the Evangel Children's Home.  For this project, our members brought different groups of children to outdoor activities such as visiting a Fire Boat, the Wetland Gardens, and Repulse Bay Beach as they rarely had the opportunity to go on such trips.  Our second long-term project, organized by Kenny and Leslie, assisted in the management of the toy room and reading room at the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children.  I am proud to say that without our initial support, the program would never have been realized.  The increasing popularity of this program goes to show that children are becoming more excited about reading and interacting with other children!

As for International Service, I believe that we have established a close relationship with our sister club – the Rotaract Club of Taipei.  We were deeply impressed with the size of their club, (a strong 30!) and the hospitality they showed us during our visit last December.  Since then, 6 of their members have also paid us a visit in Hong Kong.  I am thankful for the opportunity Rotaract has given my members and I in meeting such wonderful people!

Congratulations and best wishes to President Ken and his board members in the upcoming year.  I believe that it will be yet another successful year!

Yours Truly,

Henry Pang

Immediate Past President

Message from President Ken Law

Dear Fellow Rotaracters, Rotarians and Honoured Guests,

Welcome to our 6th Annual General Meeting. Today is the most important day to our club.  It represents a new beginning for our club – a more active, friendlier, more giving & sunnier Rotaract Club!  On behalf of our club, I would like to thank you for coming here to celebrate with us.

Last year, Hong Kong faced many difficulties.  The SARS outbreak seriously hit the Hong Kong economy.  We, the Rotaract Club of Tai Po, also postponed and cancelled several events last year.  Under this poor condition, we tried our best to do as much as we can. I would sincerely thank President Henry & his board members for their hard work last year.

I’m honored to be elected President of the Rotaract Club of Tai Po in this upcoming Rotaract year.  To fulfill my duty, I have many things to learn.   Therefore, not only is the installation a new start for our club, it is also a big start of my life.  In this Rotaract year, I will try my best to make our club reach higher.  I believe our club will have more fun, more joy, more giving & more friendship.

Thank you for celebrating with us today.  I hope you have a joyful afternoon!

Yours in Rotaract,

Ken Law

Message from Vice President Joanne Ho

Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors and Honourable guests,

Thank you for joining our 6th installation ceremony. I believe it is a good time for celebration as we said goodbye to SARS. In the time of SARS, I found that there are many things we can do more and we can lend our hand to make our live and our community better. Simplest way includes putting the litter into rubbish bin to keep our community clean. And we can join together to serve the community more like visiting the elderly's home and help them clean up their houses.

After SARS, we still surrounded by the challenging life. The bus disaster in Tuen Mun and the Super Typhoon "Imbudo" tell us that lifes are weak and we, those lucky guys & gals, could contribute more to our community and lend our hand to build a better world for all.

May I take this opportunity to thank Henry and Ken for letting me to be the Vice President again and share the fun & friendship with all of you.

Hope you will enjoy the time with us.

Yours in Rotaract,

Joanne

Message from Community Service Director Nelson Wong

Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors and Honourable guests,

Hello, I’m Nelson.  I’m very glad to be the Community Service Directors of the Rotaract Club of Tai Po in 2003-2004. This is the first time I’m serving on the board.  I sincerely thank everyone (particularly President-Elect Ken Law who nominated me) for giving me this opportunity to serve the club.

What motivated me to join the board is that I have gained a lot from joining Rotaract.  It is through participating in the club’s community services that I get to "experience" why to give is better than to take.   I’m certain that many other members have felt the same way as they were participating in our services.   So I want take this opportunity to thank our ex-Directors, Ken and Kelly, for doing such a good job in the past year.   What I have just mentioned surely could not have happened without their hard work!

Succeeding the goodness of Ken and Kelly, I will try my best to

organize more meaningful and outdoor services for those in need.  This year, we will most likely to continue to serve children at Evangel Children’s Home, who have now formed a close relationship with many of our members.   I welcome you to join us to share and have fun together.   With your support, I’m certain that the upcoming services will be fun and worthy.

If you are interested in our community services, please contact me through email at any time.  My email is "[email protected]".

Yours in Rotaract,

Nelson Wong

Message from Professional Service Director Henry Pang

Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors and Honourable guests,

It is with pleasure that I accept this post as Professional Service Director.  My experience this past year as President has highlighted the importance in collaborating with our Mother Club in order to attain greater achievements.  Therefore, this year, I plan to work closely with our Mother Club’s Program Director so that we might support each other in our endeavours for professional growth.  By encouraging members to join our Mother Club meetings and by

extending our invitation to our Mother Club when we have professional speakers, the mutual benefits are immeasurable.  The bonding and the understanding will help develop lasting friendships and ultimately greater benefits to our society.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to make a difference.

Yours in Rotaract,

Henry

Message from International Service Director Leslie Fu

Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors and Honourable guests,

I am looking forward to working with President-Elect Ken and his new board members in the upcoming year.  I am grateful to Man and Wilson for having organized fellowship opportunities with our Sister Club, the Rotaract Club of Taipei this past year since I have made many great friends!  I also want to take this opportunity to thank our Mother Club for opening up this channel of friendship and understanding.

In the upcoming Rotaract year, my aim is to develop an even closer bond with our sister club by joining their community service / fellowship activities in Taiwan.  I hope that fellow members and Rotarians support me in this endeavour!

I am excited to have this opportunity to serve our club and our community.  I hope that you will share this enthusiasm with me and I hope that you will join us when we fly off to Taiwan later on this year!
