| Most successful driver in Unity Raceway history enters DNK Select 250 Unity, ME Unity Raceway is renowned as Maines toughest racing oval, yet over seventy of the best Pro Stock racers from throughout the Northeastern New England will tackle the track this Sunday afternoon in the richest race in the State of Maine this season, the $25,000-to-win DNK Select 250. If experience is a key factor itll be tough to top the most successful driver in track history, 10-time Unity Raceway Pro Stock champion Steve Nelson of Albion. Nelsons Unity resume is unmatched, and after a disappointing kickoff to the 2004 season his program seems to be turning around just in time for the biggest race in track history. Success for Nelson could net a one-day payoff better than most of his championship seasons netted, but there are a host of others with a pretty healthy dose of Unity experience to contend with, along with the PASS invaders and several veterans with limited experience on the old fairgrounds oval. Chief rivals for Nelson among the local crowd include his Albion neighbors, Matt Lee and Dean Fuller, the two most recent Pro Stock champions at Unity Raceway. Scott Chubbuck, the current Pro Stock points leader, expects to contend for the top prize, as does Randy Turner, a winner at Unity this past Saturday night in a 50-lap Triple Crown Series race. Not to be overlooked on the local front is Racin Ralph Nason, winner of Unitys biggest event last season, and a feature winner earlier this year. Nason, 64, leads a veteran presence that includes Maine racing legends Stan Meserve and Mike Rowe, among others. Reigning Busch North Series champion Andy Santerre, a Cherryfield, Maine native now living in Mooresville, North Carolina, will step out of his Aubuchon Hardware-sponsored Busch North ride for a rare go before the home crowd. Former Busch North Series champion Dale Shaw and former NASCAR Weekly Series National Champion Ted Christopher are among the dozens of invaders with a legitimate shot to score the victory. Defending Pro All Stars Series champion Ben Rowe, a winner in his last appearance at Unity, expects to be a threat, along with former series champion Sudn Sam Sessions and current PASS point leader Johnny Clark. DNK Select 250 weekend kicks off with Pro Stock practice Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. That practice session will continue until 4:00 p.m., when Unity Raceways Thursday Thrillers series takes over Maines Toughest Racing oval for a special Friday night appearance, with practice at 5:00 p.m., and racing starting at 7:00 p.m. A full day and night of action is set for Saturday, June 12, with Pro Stock practice running from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Unitys weekly racing series divisions take over the track beginning at 3:30 p.m. with practice for all regular divisions, with racing action set to start at 6:30 p.m. Racing action will be followed by a Happy Hour session for all DNK Select 250 entrants. Sunday, June 13 is the date of the inaugural DNK Select 250 Pro All Stars Series event. The pit gate swings open at 8:00 a.m. for the biggest event in Unity Raceway history, and the most lucrative payoff in all of Maine racing this season. Practice sessions kick off at 10:30 a.m., with heat races to qualify for the rich 250-lapper beginning at 1:00 p.m. Allison Legacy cars will run a race between the heat and consolation event for the DNK Pro Stocks, with NELCAR Legends filling the gap between the Pro Stock consis and the 250-lap main event, which should go to post at approximately 6:00 p.m. with what promises to be the most talented field of racers in track history. The DNK Select 250 at Unity Raceway is sanctioned by the Pro All Stars Series. For rules, purse or ticket information, check out www.proallstarsseries.com, www.dnkselect.com, or www.unityraceway.net.
