| Talented field taking shape for June 13 DNK Select 250 at Unity Raceway Unity, ME Sixty of the best Pro Stock drivers representing dozens of track and series championships, and hundreds of race wins, are eagerly awaiting their chance to win $25,000 in the richest race for the division in the region this season, the DNK Select 250, scheduled for Sunday, June 13 at Unity Raceway in Unity, Maine. The NASCAR Busch North Series will be represented by two-time and defending series champion Andy Santerre, who currently has the Bessey Motorsports / Aubuchon Hardware Chevrolet atop the standings as he shoots for a third straight title. Santerre, a Cherryfield, Maine native, will steer a Pro Stock owned by DNK Select Used Cars co-owner Doug White. Another former two-time Busch North Series champion, Dick McCabe of Kennebunkport, Maine, will enter the DNK Select 250 in a car entered by Beech Ridge truck racer Wright Pearson. NASCARs Featherlite Modified Series will be represented by Ted Christopher, a former NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Champion hailing from Plainville, Connecticut. Christopher will steer a potent Pro Stock from the Northeast Recycling team owned by Clinton Teague of Salem, New Hampshire. ACT Dodge Tour fans will see onetime series runner-up Patrick Laperle of St.Denis, Quebec in action in Julio Migliores Precision JLM Chevrolet at Unity. The Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tours two-time and defending champion, John Flemming of Halifax, Nova Scotia, heads south of the border looking for DNK Select 250 gold, along with New Brunswicks Lonnie Sommerville. Several other Carquest Tour regulars will join in, thanks to a recent schedule change leaving that date open on the Maritime Tour. Naturally, the sanctioning Pro All Stars Series will be well-represented at Unitys biggest-ever race on June 13. Two-time and defending PASS Champion Ben Rowe of Turner, Maine will be aiming for the $25,000 top prize in the Mechanical Services Chevrolet owned by Tom and Eileen Estes of New Gloucester, Maine. The only other PASS champion ever, Sudn Sam Sessions of South Paris, Maine, also was the winner of the biggest PASS race ever, last Octobers DNK Big Dawg Challenge 400. Expect Sessions and the Call of the Wild / Auburn Metal Fab Zilch team to be a threat to win it all again. Although still looking for his first PASS win, The Kernel, Scott Mulkern, might have something to say about who prevails in the DNK Select 250. Mulkern nailed down the win in the biggest tune-up for the June 13 classic with a win in the opening day Maine State Lottery 104 Pro Stock race at Unity. It was the second time that the Community Pharmacies Dodge driver had scored in the Unity Raceway season-opener. Last years PASS points runner-up, Johnny Clark, will fly the DNK colors at Unityy, and hell be joined by many other veterans of the touring Pro Stock wars like five-time Wiscasset Raceway Pro Stock Champion Scott Chubbuck, Andy Shaw, Gary Smith, Richie Dearborn, Chuck Lachance, Garry Johnson, Walt Hammond, Mike Kimball, Jarod Robie, Cassisu Clark, Travis Benjamin and Donnie Whitten. Several other PASS drivers will be filing DNK Select 250 entries soon. PASS regular Mike Rowe plans to be a factor in the DNK Select 250, driving his K&K Excavation / Lux Enterprises Chevrolet. A former ACT and NEPSA Champion, Rowe is a seven-time Oxford Plains Speedway champion. Another former Oxford regular, eight-time track champion Jeff Taylor of Mercer, has entered Cory Hights Chevrolet. Al Hammond, a DNK-sponsored Oxford Pro Stock racer and another multi-time track champion, will be on hand, along with reigning OPS champion Ricky Rolfe and several other top runners from that track like Billy Whorff, Jeremie Whorff, Timmy Brackett, Scott Moore and Scott King, with others sure to follow. Dan McKeage, Billy Rodgers and Lew Fortin from Beech Ridge have entered. Wiscasset and Speedway 95 fans can cheer on a former multi-time champion at both tracks, Big John Phippen, a young up-and-comer, Rodney Brooks, or a guy somewhere in-between like Denny Alexander. Multi-time Seekonk Speedway Champion Radical Rick Martin of Westport, Massachusetts, who has also won a Thompson Pro Stock title, will be joined by last years Seekonk Pro Stock runner-up, Ray Parent of Rhode Island in the Unity pit area on June 13. Add to that the veteran factor, with long-on-Unity-experience guys like Racin Ralph Nason and Stan The Man Meserve in the DNK Select 250 field. Another entrant who defies categorization is Fall River, Massachusetts veteran Jungle Jim McCallum. Unity Raceway regulars arent to be overlooked, led by multi-time and reigning track Pro Stock Champion Matt Lee. The most reecnt champion other than Lee, Dean Fuller, has also entered the big show. Jeff Burgess heads a list of other Unity regulars with a shot, along with Randy Turner, Craig Anderson, Gary Norris, Dana Strout, Scott Albee, George Fernald, Jr. |
