Moncton Car Show Holds 30th Event

The  30th Anniversary edition of the Monction Speed RadicalCar Show was held last weekend in the spacious confines of the Moncton Collisseum. Over 300 vehicles, stock cars, motor cycles and snow machines were on display for the huge crowd in attendance for the three day event. This show, which is billed as one of the largest car shows in Canada, certainly lived up to its reputation this year.

Credit for its success should go to Greg Turner and the Moncton Motorsports Club. Turner has been the chairman of the Moncton show since Day 1 and although Bruce Robertson of Ontario is the shows producer, it is up to Turner to organize it.

Turner has seen many changes. With the new complex, the show has become the second largest car show in Canada this year. Turner went on to say the first show here in Moncton had 85 entries and this year there are 308 and we expect to have over 25,000 spectators during the three days.

With the Wildcats playoff hockey drive, things couldnt start to be set up until Thursday night, which meant car owners and displayers had to be here at 5am Friday in order to open on time Friday afternoon.

Turner thinks that one thing that helps draw the crowd is the entertainment, which keeps getting better each year. This year, one of the WWE divas of wrestling fame was in attendance.

Turner is also part owner of Atlantic Motorsports Park in Schubenacadie, NS. His interests and support are also leant to car rallies and slalom racing.

Although financed by Mr. Robertson, the Moncton Car Club gets the revenue. Usually it is used to promote amateur motorsports in greater Moncton, but this year, repairs to damage caused by Hurricane Juan at AMP will use up much of the money. There are five car clubs in the Maritimes and we all help with the park. Turner added.

In Turners younger years, he did rally racing himself, from 1970 1985. These rallies took place on public highways. Ive rallied in the Maritimes, Ontario, Quebec and once in Alaska. One was the Nova Scotia Highland Rally from Cape Breton to Halifax and another was the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Rally.

Greg Turner, although retired, will probably be at the helm of this event for years to come and the operation would have to look hard to find a replacement with the enthusiasm and interest he displayed.
