| Flemming Picks Up Where He Left Off After a two hour rain delay, the Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour fired up their powerful machines at the "grand old lady", Riverside speedway, just outside Antigonish, Sunday afternoon. Despite a ninth place qualification time trial, defending CPST champion John Flemming, from Halifax, grabbed the lead on lap 79 in his Dodge powered machine, and held on to take the first of 11 races, in defence of his crown. Mike MacKenzie, in the Forbes Chev-Olds Monte Carlo, took the lead on the first lap and looked to be in control until Fredericton's Shawn Tucker slipped by on lap 69 when MacKenzie had to brake due to an altercation in turn two. Tucker in turn got spun out in turn three, surrendering the lead to Flemming on lap 79. Stacy Clements, the former Sportsman Tour Champion, drove a steady race, finishing sixth after a tenth place start. Afterwards, he joked " Gained four places and never passed a car". Dan Eddy was definately the hardest charger in the field. After spinning out on lap 44, he climbed back to fifth from the back of the twenty four car field to finish fifth. Donald Chisholm, from Antigonish, stayed in the hunt all day, and finished third for his efforts. Chris Reid, from Sydney, took top honours in the Sportsman feature, with a strong run. Reid, who who will be driving on the Can-Fan Sportsman Tour, established himself as one of the cars to beat. Next action on the Pro Stock calender is this coming Saturday at Scotia Speedworld starting at 2pm. |
