Monday afternoon at the Shediac, NB oval, a new era in stock car racing was unveiled as the regular Pro Stock class was introduced to the public. The Pro Stock car count was sparse with only seven cars answering the bell but several more are in various stages of building.
Steve Milburn was victorious in the first Pro Stock feature at Shediac in a close battle with Carquest Pro Stock Tour rookie of the year in 2003, Ian Mollins. Mollins gave it everything he had but Milburn pulled away over the last few laps.
In Sportsman action, Gary Hicks of Moncton emerged victorious over sixteen other contenders in a close race.
Gaetan Boudreau and Tim Stright took home victories in the Thunder and Tiger Car divisions in an action filled race as is common in the four cylinder class.
The Atlantic Open Wheel Tour made its first start of the season with a 20 car field. Chris Garnett, defending chamion on the AOW tour, made it known that he is back to defend his title with a vengence, and swept the final feature of the day. Lowell Affleck, a second year driver as well, gave Garnett all he could handle but in the end, Garnet prevailed.
Racing resumes at Centre for Speed next Sunday as the Street Stocks make their return to the fast oval. Racing begins at 4pm.
