In 1990, Hakkinen take part in British Formula Three Season. In this year, he joined West Surrey Racing and his teammate was Brazilian Christian Fittipaldi. His main rival was Mika Salo (also a Finnish). Hakkinen won 9 out of 17 races in this year. The highlight in this year may be in Round 8 at Silverstone. At that time Hakkinen had won three times, Salo four. Here is the comment of Peter Collins (Formula One team Lotus owner): "Hakkinen had been embroiled in a very hertic dice with Salo and the two of them touched ever so lightly in the Complex. What impressed me was that they had raced through a medium-speed left-hand corner absolutely wheel-to-wheel within an inch of one another and didn't touch....." Finally, Hakkinen won the championship at Donington. |
