I was a bit disoriented this morning when I got up at 10am. I almost thought I was dreaming. First thing I did was walk into the bathroom and search for my contact case. But then I noticed how incredibly clear everything was. I could actually see my own two hands, which is generally not the case for a blind bat like me. Darn. I fell asleep with my contacts in. I hate when I do that.

I have this odd recurring dream about my contacts. I guess Im overly paranoid that Ill lose them or something, but I always dream my contacts are the size of the palm of my hand and Im trying to place that sucker in my eye. Im Korean. My eyes are not that big. So Im stretching the top and bottom lid of my eye with one hand and trying to insert the mega-sized contact with the other.

And I always wake up before I can get it in.

Well at least this morning, my eyes are properly placed so I can get on with my day. Then I notice Old Mama Thug is gone. She must have left early this morning for Boston. Her and Missy Yuan are driving up for our friends wedding and heading up a few days early. BaeWhack and I are flying up on Friday.

So OMT is gone and will be celebrating her Independence day in bean town. Im supposed to spend it with the siblings in D.C. But when I walk out into the living room, everything is eerily quiet. I check my sisters room. Empty. And then I remember OMT mentioned KC might have gone up to Atlantic City with her boyfriend for the holiday. But I thought we made plans to celebrate it together here in DC.

So I walk over to my brothers lair and take a peek inside there. If hes in his room, all I have to see are his huge feet dangling from the end of the bed (hes too tall for the twin size bed he has in his room). But all I see is a huge pile of clothes and dirty socks congregating (and I also think molding) on his bed and the floor. Hmmm.

My brother was the one who insisted we celebrate this 4th of July together as a family. This is his first year in D.C. and hes never seen the fireworks, so he wanted to go check it out. Initially, my sister and I werent too thrilled with the idea. I mean, going into the nations capital on Independence day is like voluntarily throwing yourself into a mass riot where you could get stomped and have explosives (or at least those sparkling sticks) blow up in your face. Fortunately, Ive survived the past two years without a single battle wound (although one time I did almost get my eye poked out from a miniature American flag held by a kid sitting on his fathers shoulders).

But its the nations capital. Not everyone gets to spend Independence day in DC along with the President of the United States of America. Yes. How exciting, huh?

Of course, feeling somewhat abandoned right now, I may not get to see any fireworks at all this year.

Where is everyone? Or am I still dreaming? Hmm.
