THE POCKET IN MY HEART

In my heart there is a pocket,
full of many precious things.
Every now and then I reach into my heart and open the pocket up
and gaze upon the treasures inside

Rocks and twigs from a nature walk,
shiny, plastic rings;
A piece of paper with a drawing of an angel,
a blond, blue-eyed cherub with a broad loving smile

A button that came off of a pretty pink dress,
a sparkler from the 4th of July,
A favorite ornament with a crack in it
that was proudly hung high on a Christmas tree.

a stuffed bunny jumps out at me,
her name is Cindy;
She perks up at the sight of me and pipes out:
"Drop and give me five, Buffalo Bob!"

So many things.....
I go through them, touching each one,
remembering a joyful smile and bright sparkling eyes.

I spread them out before my mind's eye... and remember.
Then I put my treasures back in the pocket in my heart
ever so carefully

In my heart there is a pocket
full of many precious things
