Your lost, fatigued and in the middle of no where with no food or water, and you keep hearing things.... Is someone following you? you stop and all you can hear if your own sonorous breathing, besides no one knows where you are. The forest is huge, and it's getting dark, making it look more and more eerie. You only noticed the woods a week ago and thought you'd come for a quick stroll.... only it's turned out to be a nightmare. You settle down for the night under a large oak tree, when suddenly a pretty girl with lustrous auburn hair, about 17 jumps, out from behind a tree, a gun in her hand. Seeing you look uneasy and you have no weapons the harsh expression on her visage softens.
"Are you lost?" she says in a dulcet voice.
"Yes", You stammer.
She smiles, her vivid eyes show both pity and amusement. "Of coarse you lost! you entered another realm, I am so stupid sometimes..." She grins, "well you can either come with me to my shack and I'll show you the way out tomorrow, or you can wander off on your own." She looks at you in a curt manner, "what will it be?"
"Err I'll come with you if that's ok."
She beams once again and nods, "it'll be nice to have some company for a change."
While your walking your companion suddenly bursts out, "oh gosh I'm sorry! I forgot my manners, I'm Red, or at least that's what everyone calls me. I'm hoping to be blessed with a dragon egg from the Keltic Dragon adoption agency. I dropped out of school and began doing odd jobs, I used to want to be a runner, I was the best runner in my year and I used to go to the district sports and everything. But then someone told my about the agency! I've been preparing a nest ever since, I don't care what colour it is or what type it is, I'm going to love him/her regardless..... if I get one that is. I've read up about them and everything, I've made the nest as homely as I can, so all I can do now is wait. If I don't get one I'll just try again another time. The nest is situated inside my shack, in a vast room which I've never used."
You nod and introduce yourself properly, commenting on what Red had just said. A dragon.... what a thought! Perhaps I should apply for one you think..... You shudder as you look about, the trees seemed to have faces and reach out to you.
"Err Red.... pardon me for asking but, what's up with the trees? are they alive or something? I feel like they're watching me..."
"That's because they are."
You look at her dumbfounded, "WHAT?!?!?!"
She shrugs, "they're alive, they are spirits." She takes a deep breath, "you see long ago this place was simply a vast valley with no trees or anything... There lived a guardian among the people of this realm, he was an incredibly powerful wizard called Euardo, and his companion was a black dragon. A titan came, now titans, they have no master and can throw lightning bolts, this titan came to sap the magic out of the realm to add to his strength. And in doing so he would kill everyone in the realm, now Euardo could not stand for this so he and his companion set out to kill the titan. To cut a long story short Euardo and his dragon won, but Euardo died soon after the battle, now these two were special, they were one. So when Euardo died so did his dragon, the dragon's name is unknown to most, and those who do know his/her name keep it a secret. He/she was a special dragon because unlike most blacks, he/she was good and pure. Many people died watching and without Euardo and his dragon to protect them, those that did survive were eventually wiped out. A tree marks the spot where a person died, that is why each and every tree within this realm is different to normal trees. Now the spirits vowed that if ever another dragon, with good intentions of coarse, should enter this realm, they would see no harm came to it or it's guardian. And in the centre of the valley, what remains of the valley anyway, lies two huge oak trees, which represent Euardo and his companion. The valley is still vast, yet not as vast as before the battle. The ground contains their blood even now, therefore it too is enchanted. Should a dragon grace these lands again with it's presence, any being seeking to harm that dragon, or it's guardian, will we swallowed up by the ground. As for the water... it contains stardust, so should any being with bad intentions come into contact with it, it will feel like acid to them..." She sighs heavily having finished the story.
You stare absent-mindedly at the trees, feeling a wave of awe sweep over you, engulfed in thought about what Red had just said. After what seems like hours, but is only minutes, you snap out of your 'trance'. You can just about make out Red's svelte frame a little way ahead of you, her wild auburn hair billowing in the zephyr. You stifle a yawn and push on, the only noise coming from the pitter-patter of your feet drumming on the malleable loam. You look upwards, hoping to see some light shed from the stars, to make the forest seem a little less eldritch, but you can't see the welkin for the trees. Suddenly you lose sight of Red and panic sets in, when you hear a creak you almost jump out of your skin, you shiver and wrap your arms around you. Moments later you see a shaft of light through the trees, do you run or follow? Looking to the trees you notice some have smeared pictures painted on them, pictures that tell a tale. Some even have pictures carved into them, and some have been wrote upon. The pictures and writing tell about Euardo and his dragon, it seems they saved their people more than once.
