| Pec is located in the Krkonose (Giant Mountains) at the northern border of the Czech Republic. It is a popular ski resort, and Rike and Isa took a ski class here in March. I came to visit and took a walk through the Krkonose National Park. The sign on the left is a typical orientation marker found in national parks. It is particu- larly useful in the winter, when the trails are hard to see. If you scroll down, you can see some of the pictures I took from Pec. |

| The word "Nrodn" means "National," so this sign is for the Krkonose National Park. The national emblem shows the three parts of the country. Bohemia, the dominant area, in which Prague is located, is represented by the silver split-tailed lion. Moravia, where Olomouc is located, is represented by the silver and red checkered eagle, and Silesia is represented by the black eagle with a silver crescent. Matt and I have an official emblem in our kitchen (long story, but it's genuine). | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Okay, so the weather didn't cooperate perfectly, but you get the idea that it was in the mountains and pretty beautful, even if it was too foggy to see the highest peaks. Snezka is the highest peak in the country at 1602m or about 5250ft, so it's not enormous, but it's still good for skiing. | |||||||||||||||||||||
