| Karltejn is a favorite tourist attraction for those who venture outside of Prague. It's not really that far from the city. My former French roommate and I drove there in about 45 minutes in September. Unfortunately, we took the scenic route, and the drive ended up being one of the most frightening experiences in my life. The castle was well worth it though, with an impressive facade and breathtaking views. It was built by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV from 1348-1357, and has had many additions. The coronation jewels were kept there, although you need special permission to view them now! It's such a popular tourist destination that a lot of money has been invested into its restoration and upkeep, and I fully recommend it to anyone who ever happens to be in the Prague area! |
