| How to publicize events | ||||||
| You have an event coming up and you NEED to publicize it now!! What do you do? There are several ways in which to do so: Flyers, Student Announcements(online), The Retriever (the Newspaper), word-of-mouth, tabling. What works at UMBC and what DOES NOT- Does not work- PAPER IS NOT THE ANSWER We in the past have done some small level flyering on campus. There are little bulletin boards throughout the campus in which you can put flyers up, but you take the chance of having it covered with someone else's flyer within a matter of minutes. We have also used the quarter-flyers to publicize an event. I do not know how successful that is but it is easier to distribute and put on tables in the Commons. Does work- Telling people- I have found word-of-mouth to work amazingly. AIM Member profile- Since we currently do not have a calendar, I use the screename as one. I generally put most of each month's event up online. I update it daily. Hillel Mass E-mail-Every Tuesday, we send out the weekly announcements. If you have an event, program or anything make sure it gets into the e-mail. Currently, the email goes out to over 500 people. UMBC Student Announcements- Every Friday, students across UMBC recieve a weekly email announcement. You must send in your ad by 3 pm on Thursday or else it will not get into that week's email Tabling- i have found that Tabling for a specific event works well if you a)have several students to sit at the table, b)is in a high traffic area, c)have an interactive table or a table that gives food, candy, etc. away |
