| Target Group: A "specific" audience of people who share a common bond. | ||||||||
| In general, a target group is supposed to be a specific audience of people in which there is a common ground to draw from. For example: Seniors, First-Year Students, Womyn, Reform Student, Orthodox Students, etc. However, at UMBC it is harder to "target" these groups. There are examples of each of the above mentioned groups but bringing them together and finding a bond is difficult. Since our Hillel is a much smaller, emerging campus it is easier to have all students as "target" students. One still wants to consider each person and the 'group' they fit into but here at UMBC most programs are for the masses. Having said all of that I am still going to give you some of my 'target' groups and programs I did with each. Seniors- Seniors here at UMBC consist of both commuter/residential students. One needs to do a program that can be held in the early evening. I did a program called "Pizza and Friends." We held it at a seniors apartment (here on campus) and made little English muffin pizzas. The upside to this program is that EVERYONE loves both Pizza and Friends so it was an immediate success. The downside was that we did not have enough room in the apartment to fit anyone else who might have come. Womyn- I did a program called "Judaism & Spirits" about Jewish mysticism and we discussed the Golem, Lilith and Dyubbk. They are very interesting stories and I though this would attract alot of people due to the fact that we did it around Halloween. The upside to this program is that the students were able to tell me the stories they had heard in grade schools about the Dyubbk or the Golem. It gave us a chance to explore Jewish Storytelling and that was a very positive experience. Political Science- This group can have great potential if more people were identified as being political science minded. My initial visions for this group were great and I had hoped to do trips to D.C, the Holocaust museum and such. |
