Birth took place at the home of a midwife named Margaret Holgraver in Cuba City Wisconsin, she lived near the site of the old Catholic Church, just a few blocks from the home of Lillian Mary Heitkamp Kirk. Lillian and James Kirk lived at 120 Washington St. Cuba City Wisconsin. Lillian had grown up in this house and James made improvements to it during their marriage.
Eleanor Mary Kirk Butts, left home to go to school at the college at Plattville, and then used the monry she had inherited to "run away" to Seattle because she had heard from her aunts that Seattle was such a beautiful place. Eleanor lived in that area for over 20 years before moving to Anchorage, Alaska where she now lives.

He now resides in Misoula montana. He has one other daughter in Washington State named Christina. Gary has two brothers and one sister. They are Jeffery Rudolph Mehaffey, Charles Mehaffey Jr and Kathy Mehaffey Wampler. Garys parents are Charles Mehaffey Sr, who was killed on the roadside on the Snohomish flats on a dark night when Gary was nine years old. He had stopped his car on the shoulder of the road to check something under the hood. The rear of his car was hit with immense force by another vehicle driven by an intoxicated American Native male, who had his family in the car with him. Chucks car was pushed over the top of him and he was crushed and instantly killed.
